LED FLOOR LIGHTS

LED floor lighting covers a wide range of applications: recessed puck lights flush with a deck surface, IP67 LED strips running at floor level under furniture, or inground uplights for landscape accents. This page covers the main product families available at LEDCO and what to look for before buying.

Note: LEDCO sells LED floor lighting products — these are fixtures designed to be installed at or near floor level, not traditional floor lamp fixtures. Our floor LED products are primarily inground, surface-mount, or strip-based.

Recessed LED Puck Lights (Floor-Embedded)

Recessed LED puck lights are designed to sit flush with the floor surface — wood deck boards, concrete slabs, composite decking, or stone. They carry an IP65 rating minimum, tolerating water jets and regular cleaning. Their upward-directed beam creates a path-marking effect along walkways, exterior corridors, or pool surrounds.

Key specs to check before ordering:

  • Cutout diameter relative to deck thickness
  • Mechanical load rating — some are pedestrian-rated, others are not
  • Input voltage: 12V DC or 24V DC depending on circuit length
  • Colour temperature: 2700K warm white for ambiance, 4000K neutral for safety marking

Typical applications: residential decks and patios in Montreal and surrounding areas, garden pathways, exterior stairs, pool surrounds.

IP67 LED Strips at Floor Level

An IP67-rated LED strip installed at floor level — recessed in an aluminum channel or tucked under furniture — produces a discreet grazing effect that works both functionally and architecturally. Common uses include:

  • Under kitchen cabinets, islands, or buffets for a floating glow at floor level
  • Under interior stair treads — a continuous line of light at the base of each riser
  • At the base of partition walls or feature walls for zone definition
  • Under deck railings or balcony guards for outdoor ambiance

IP67 LED strips are fully encapsulated in a silicone sleeve, protecting them from moisture, cleaning products, and light mechanical contact. They operate at 12V or 24V DC depending on power requirements and run length. See the full LED strip collection for density and lumen options.

Inground LED Uplights

Inground LED uplights are recessed into the ground or a hardscape surface and project light upward. They highlight trees, architectural columns, walls, or fence lines from below — creating dramatic focal points in a landscape or façade at night.

These fixtures are built for outdoor use: die-cast aluminum or stainless steel housings, IP67 or IP68 ratings, with pedestrian load ratings available on select models. They are available in 12V low-voltage and 120V line-voltage versions depending on wattage requirements.

Typical use: residential landscaping in Montreal and the suburbs, tree uplighting, garden pathway accents, low-angle wall washing.

Outdoor Applications

LED floor lighting is particularly effective in these outdoor scenarios:

  • Deck and patio: puck lights recessed between composite boards, LED strips under railings
  • Garden pathways and borders: inground uplights or path markers along walkways
  • Exterior stairs: puck lights in risers or LED strips under stair nosing
  • Pool surrounds: IP67 or IP68 fixtures only, with low-voltage power supplies

For any outdoor application in Quebec, select products rated for temperatures down to -40°C.

Indoor Applications

Indoors, floor-level lighting is primarily used for architectural effect or wayfinding:

  • Aluminum channel recessed in hardwood flooring for an LED strip at floor level — very popular in open-plan kitchens and corridors
  • Floating glow under furniture — creates a sense of lightness and helps with nighttime navigation
  • Grazing light on exposed stone or concrete walls — highlights natural texture
  • Stair marking in interior staircases

Choosing the Right IP Rating

The correct IP rating depends on the installation environment:

  • IP44: splash-proof — not sufficient for floor-level use
  • IP65: water jet resistant — minimum for covered outdoor floor applications
  • IP67: temporary submersion — required for rain-exposed zones, pool surrounds
  • IP68: continuous submersion — for shallow water feature fixtures

For LED strips at floor level or in direct outdoor exposure, IP67 silicone-encapsulated strips are the standard recommendation.

12V or 24V?

Input voltage affects how long a single circuit can run without voltage drop affecting brightness:

  • 12V DC: ideal for short runs (up to ~5 m of strip per driver) and low-wattage puck lights
  • 24V DC: recommended for longer runs (up to ~10 m) and higher-output fixtures

Line-voltage (120V) inground uplights connect directly to the electrical panel and do not require a low-voltage driver.
