INDOOR LIGHTING: FIND THE PERFECT LED OPTION FOR EVERY ROOM

Choosing LED home lighting starts with a simple question: what do you do in this room? You don't light a room the same way to read in the living room, cook, get ready in the morning or tinker in the garage. Rather than repeating the same ceiling fixture everywhere, LED lighting lets you pick the right fixture for each room and play with intensity and colour temperature. Here, room by room, are the solutions LEDCO offers.

Living room: LED strips in a cove and track lighting

The living room calls for warm light that can be softened in the evening. An LED strip hidden in a cove, behind a TV unit or under a shelf provides indirect lighting that highlights the room's volumes. Set in an aluminum profile, it gives a more uniform line and a clean finish. For artwork, a bookcase or a stone wall, LED track lighting aims each head exactly where it is needed. An LED dimmer or controller takes you from reading light to an evening mood.

Kitchen and dining room: slim downlights and pendants

In the kitchen, light has to be functional first. Each zone has its fixture:

  • The ceiling: LED ceiling downlights, such as the 3 or 4-inch DLX slim downlights, which need little space above the ceiling.
  • The island or table: LED suspended luminaires, from the 20-inch suspended ceiling light to the 4 ft linear luminaire.
  • The work surface: an LED strip in a profile under the cabinets, which erases the shadow of the upper cabinets.

Bedroom: dimmed LED strips and trimless downlights

The bedroom calls for soft, relaxing light. A warm-white LED strip behind the headboard or under the bed frame makes a discreet night light, and a dimmer lowers the intensity before bedtime. On the ceiling, the DLT 4-inch trimless downlight blends into the drywall for a clean finish; the DLS 4-inch round RGBW-CCT 9 W downlight also switches from warm white to a cooler white, or to an accent colour. For a bedside lamp, LED bulbs in A19 or G40 formats replace your old bulbs.

Bathroom: LED mirrors and downlights

In the bathroom, light needs to be crisp for the morning routine yet soothing for an evening bath. LED bathroom mirrors put the light at face level, where a ceiling fixture alone creates shadows; medicine cabinet models, such as the Harmony and Galaxy mirrors, add storage behind the glass. Ceiling downlights provide general lighting, and an LED strip in a profile can highlight a vanity or a niche.

Hallways and entrances: LED puck lights and DLX downlights

The hallway and entrance give the first impression of the house and serve as a passage at night. A row of DLX slim downlights draws the eye from one end to the other, while LED puck lights built into an entry cabinet, a niche or the base of a wall mark the way without glare.

Home office and basement: LED panels and downlights

In a home office, more neutral, even light helps you stay focused in front of the screen. In a basement with a drop ceiling, ceiling LED panels fit into the grid in place of the tiles and light the whole room evenly. In a basement finished in drywall, slim downlights remain the most discreet solution, and an LED strip under a bar counter or in a home theatre adds atmosphere.

Garage and workshop: T8 LED tubes and wraparounds

In the garage and workshop, you want plenty of clear light to work safely. If your fluorescent housings are in good condition, 4 or 8 ft T8 LED tubes modernize them without replacing everything. Otherwise, integrated LED fixtures mount directly to the ceiling: the 46-inch linear workshop fixture, wraparounds from 2 to 8 ft or a vapour-tight fixture for a damp garage.

Technical tips for LED home lighting

Layer at least two sources per room. General ceiling light plus a task or accent light does more than one powerful ceiling fixture.

Warm to relax, neutral to work. Warm white suits the living room and bedroom; a more neutral white helps in the office, kitchen and workshop. The simulator above shows the difference.

A dimmer where you spend the evening. The living room, dining room and bedroom all benefit from being able to lower the intensity.

Hide the source. A strip in a profile or a cove shows the lit surface, never the points of light.

Keep one shade per room. Two different whites side by side on the ceiling are noticed right away.

LED Home Lighting FAQ

What LED lights are best for a bedroom?

Soft, dimmable light: a warm-white LED strip behind the headboard, trimless downlights in the ceiling and LED bulbs in the bedside lamps.

What LED lighting should I buy to upgrade my whole home?

Start with the rooms where the lights stay on longest: kitchen, living room, hallways. Replace the bulbs in the fixtures you are keeping first, then install slim downlights wherever you redo the ceiling. Well-chosen LED home lighting in each room beats a single model repeated everywhere.

Which colour temperature for each room?

As a rule, warm white for the living room, dining room and bedroom, and a more neutral white for the kitchen, office, bathroom and workshop. The colour temperature simulator at the top of this page shows the effect of each shade on a room before you buy.

Do I need a dimmer in every room?

Not everywhere. It is very useful in the living room, dining room and bedroom, where you go from task light to an evening mood. In the garage, laundry room or a closet, a simple switch is enough. Check that the fixture or power supply you choose is dimmable.

Can I keep my fixtures and just change the bulbs?

Yes, if the fixture is in good shape. LED bulbs come in the most common formats, such as A19, G40, GU10 or MR16, and T8 LED tubes modernize a fluorescent housing. It is often the simplest way to switch to indoor LED lights without any renovation work.
