LED BEDROOM LIGHTS

LED lights for bedroom use have to do two opposite things: be bright enough to get dressed and read, then drop to a soft glow that gets you ready for sleep. The right approach is not one big ceiling light but several layers of light: the ceiling, the headboard, under the bed, the closet and the vanity corner. LEDCO supplies every piece of the plan, in 2700K or 3000K warm white and always dimmable, shipped across Canada.

Start with the ceiling: dimmable LED recessed lights in warm white

The starting point is general lighting. 4-inch LED recessed lights in 2700K give the warmth of an incandescent bulb, natural and restful, without its energy use. Connected to a compatible dimmer, they go from full brightness in the morning to almost nothing at night. As a starting rule of thumb: about 1 downlight per 20 sq ft of ceiling, then adjust for ceiling height and wall colour.

Behind the headboard: the glow that changes the whole room

This is the signature effect of the contemporary bedroom. An LED strip set in an aluminum profile behind the headboard casts indirect light that reveals the texture of the wall, wood, concrete or fabric, with no visible hot spot. The profile's diffuser turns the diodes into one continuous, even line. In 2700K or 3000K the mood stays warm; with a CCT or RGB controller, tone and intensity adjust from a remote or a phone.

To see the result in a real home, look in our accomplishments for the residential headboard lit with a #86 recessed profile, flush with the wall. The profile disappears by day and draws the line at night.

Where to put LED lights for bedroom comfort: the right spots

The rule is the same everywhere: hide the source and light a surface, never the eyes. The placements that work best:

  • Behind the headboard: a strip in a profile, the width of the bed, for the glow on the wall.
  • Under the bed frame: a low-wattage strip at floor level, so the bed seems to float.
  • Under the closet shelf: a line above the clothing rod, to see your clothes.
  • In a cove or behind furniture: the light rises toward the ceiling, with no visible source.
  • On the ceiling: dimmable recessed lights for general lighting, and nothing stronger.

Under the bed: a night light that wakes no one

A low-wattage LED strip, 2 to 5 W per metre, fixed under the bed frame creates a glow on the floor and literally makes the bed float. In 2700K the effect is striking in the evening and becomes a discreet night light later: you get up without turning on the ceiling and without disturbing your partner. Paired with an LED motion sensor, the strip comes on when a foot touches the floor and switches off by itself afterwards.

The closet: crisper light to see true colours

The closet is the only part of the bedroom where you leave warm white behind. An LED strip in 4000K, mounted under the top shelf or above the rod, gives a clean light that lets you tell navy from black. In a profile with a frosted diffuser, the line stays even, with no dark gaps between hangers. For a deep closet or a walk-in, our detailed advice is on the LED wardrobe lights page.

If the bedroom has a vanity or a dressing area with a mirror, a backlit or front-lit LED mirror replaces the usual fixture to good effect: the face is lit head-on, with no harsh shadows. Aim for a CRI of 90 or higher in 3000K so skin tones and clothing colours stay true.

Dimmer, zones and power supply: what ties it all together

In a bedroom, the dimmer is not optional. Recessed lights dim through a compatible wall dimmer, TRIAC or 0-10V depending on the model; strips run through a 12 V or 24 V LED power supply sized to their length and wattage, then through an LED dimmer or controller. The sister page LED bedroom lighting compares ceiling fixtures, pendants and bedside sconces one by one.

Custom lengths, ready to install

With our Custom Builder, you enter the width of the bed or the shelf, and the strip arrives cut and soldered to your size, on its own or already mounted in its profile with diffuser and end caps. The tool works out the power supply and accessories, then sends you a detailed quote, with no payment taken. Unsure about a length? Write to us before you order.

Technical tips for bedroom LED lights

Warm white everywhere, except in the closet. A 4000K or 5000K white in the evening feels like office light and gets in the way of sleep; keep it for the wardrobe.

Everything must dim, all the way down. Check that the dimmer is compatible with the downlight or the power supply before buying, or the light will flicker at the bottom of the range.

The strip stops where the furniture stops. Behind a headboard, a line shorter than the bed shows right away; measure the real width of the piece, not the mattress.

Hide the power supply, but keep it reachable. It goes in a cabinet, a closet or behind the headboard, with a low-voltage wire long enough to reach the strip.

One control per side of the bed. Each person controls their own reading light and night light without touching the other's.

LED lights for bedroom FAQ

What is the best ceiling light for a bedroom?

Dimmable 4-inch LED recessed lights in 2700K, or a dimmable ceiling fixture if you would rather not cut into the ceiling. What matters is not the model, it is the dimming and the warm tone.

Can you put recessed lights in a master bedroom?

Yes, it is the most common installation. Plan about 1 downlight per 20 sq ft and avoid placing one directly above the pillow: lying down, you look at the ceiling, and a source in your line of sight is glaring.

How do you install LED lights under a bed?

Fix a 2 to 5 W per metre strip under the frame, set back from the edge so the source stays hidden, and connect it to a 12 V or 24 V power supply tucked behind the headboard. A motion sensor turns it into an automatic night light. The Custom Builder delivers it cut and soldered to the length of the frame.

Which colour temperature should bedroom LEDs be?

2700K for the room as a whole, 3000K at most for reading at the bedside. 4000K belongs only in the closet, where you want to see the colours of your clothes. A CCT strip lets you switch between them if the bedroom doubles as an office.

Where can I buy a complete set of LED lights for bedroom projects?

The whole plan can be ordered from LEDCO: recessed lights, strips, profiles, power supplies, dimmers and an LED mirror, shipped across Canada. The strip and profile are cut to your measurements in the Custom Builder, and our team reviews your list before you order.
