LED WASHROOM LIGHTS

The washroom, that small room with a toilet, a sink and sometimes a shower, calls for LED lights for bathroom spaces scaled down to its size. It is often near the entrance, in the basement or next to the primary bedroom, with little ceiling space, often no window and a mirror that still has to light the face. Poorly lit, it looks smaller and darker than it really is. LEDCO brings together the fixtures suited to these rooms: illuminated cabinet mirrors, compact recessed lights, puck lights and strips.

LED lights for bathroom spaces this small: four constraints

A washroom is not lit like a large bathroom. Each constraint calls for its own answer:

  • A low or crowded ceiling: small recessed lights rather than a large fixture that overwhelms the room.
  • No window: a uniform ceiling, which makes the room feel taller.
  • Shower humidity: a model whose data sheet shows a rating suited to damp locations.
  • A single wall for the sink: a mirror that lights the face and stores the toiletries.

The Harmony or Galaxy cabinet mirror, often the only fixture at the sink

In a washroom, every inch counts. The Harmony LED cabinet mirror and the Galaxy LED cabinet mirror combine the illuminated mirror and the medicine cabinet in a single unit. The light built into the mirror eliminates shadows on the face, and toiletries disappear behind the glass. It is often the only fixture needed above the sink; other models are gathered in our cabinet LED mirrors.

Three 3-inch DLX recessed lights: sink, toilet, shower

On a washroom ceiling, a large fixture overwhelms the room. DLX 3" round LED recessed lights, also available in a square version, are made for these compact spaces: their small format stays discreet in a low basement ceiling. Place one above the sink, one above the toilet and, if applicable, one in front of the shower. For the one near the shower, choose a model whose data sheet shows a protection rating suited to damp locations, as with any recessed shower lighting.

No window: the DLT trimless for a ceiling that feels taller

For a contemporary washroom, the DLT 4" round trimless LED recessed light blends into the drywall with no visible trim: only the light comes out of the ceiling. It suits newly redone ceilings, where the drywall finish around the opening can be done with care. The square model, in the same size, matches straight-lined tile. In a windowless room, this uniform ceiling makes the washroom feel taller.

Narrow washroom: the linear recessed light parallel to the counter

Rather than a point, the LED recessed linear 10W-18W draws a line parallel to the counter, just in front of the mirror: light falls on the sink and the face more evenly than with a single round recessed light. In a long, narrow room, it also emphasizes the depth and gives a more modern look. The full range of LED ceiling downlights lets you complete the plan with matching models.

Niches, shelves and night light: the small points of light

A niche in the shower wall, a shelf above the toilet or an open cabinet all benefit from a point of light. Decorative LED puck lights recess into a shelf or cabinet without taking up space, and the #500 LED puck light, designed for saunas and spas, is the obvious choice where steam rises.

For night-time, a low-power LED strip in an aluminum profile, at the bottom of the wall or behind the base of the toilet, draws a thread of light on the floor. With a movement detector, this bathroom light strip turns on by itself as soon as you walk in.

Technical tips for a washroom

One fixture per zone, no more. The mirror at the sink, one recessed light at the toilet and one at the shower are enough for most washrooms.

Small diameter under a low ceiling. A compact recessed light goes unnoticed where a ceiling fixture would overwhelm the room.

Check the rating near the shower. The recessed light above or near the shower must suit damp locations, according to its data sheet.

A warm white for the night light. At night, a warm glow at floor level guides without waking you; the detector saves you from looking for the switch.

Think about steam in niches. An LED shower light has to handle steam: in a niche, choose the #500 puck light, designed for saunas and spas.

A bathroom fitted with a Galaxy LED mirror is among our accomplishments. For more complete bathroom lighting, our LED bathroom mirrors also include backlit and front-lit models; contact LEDCO with the dimensions of the room.

LED Lights for Bathroom and Washroom FAQ

Which LED mirror should I choose for a washroom?

An illuminated cabinet mirror, such as the Harmony or the Galaxy, does two things in a small room: it lights the face without shadows and stores the toiletries behind the glass. It often replaces the fixture above the sink on its own. Measure the space between the sink and the ceiling before choosing the size.

How many recessed lights does a washroom need?

In most cases, two or three: one above the sink, one above the toilet and, if there is a shower, one in front of it. In a long, narrow room, a linear recessed light in front of the mirror can replace the one at the sink.

Which LED lights for bathroom spaces in a basement with a low ceiling?

DLX 3" recessed lights, round or square, are made for low ceilings: their small format stays discreet and a few of them light the whole room. If the ceiling is being redone, the DLT trimless recessed light gives a clean finish that makes the room feel taller.

Can a shower light be installed in a washroom?

Yes, as long as you choose a model whose spec sheet shows a protection rating suited to damp locations. For a niche in the shower, the #500 puck light, designed for spas, is the natural choice. When in doubt, have your electrician approve the location.

How do I light a washroom at night without glare?

With a floor-level night light: a low-power LED strip in a profile, at the bottom of the wall or behind the base of the toilet, draws a thread of light that is enough to move around. In warm white, it will not wake you, and a movement detector turns it on as you walk in, with no switch to find.
