LED WARDROBE LIGHTS

Good wardrobe lights change your morning routine: no more hunting for clothes in the shadows or mixing up navy and black. All it takes is a few metres of LED strip in an aluminum profile, a neutral 4000K white that shows true colours and, ideally, a motion sensor that turns everything on when the door opens. LEDCO supplies the strip, the profile, the puck lights and the LED mirror, and the custom LED designer cuts it all to the length of your shelves.

Wardrobe lights: where each light source goes

A ceiling fixture in the middle leaves shadows behind hanging clothes. In a wardrobe, the light goes close to what you are looking for:

  • Under the top shelf: the line of light falls straight onto the rod and the hanging clothes.
  • On the vertical uprights: a profile on each side lights the hanging area along its full height.
  • Inside the drawers: a strip on a magnetic contact turns on when you open them.
  • On the walk-in ceiling: puck lights provide general light to find your way.
  • Around the mirror: an LED mirror to judge the full outfit.

4000K LED strip under the shelf, in a frosted-diffuser profile

The most common setup is a 4000K LED strip housed in a frosted-diffuser aluminum profile, mounted under the top shelf, just above the clothing rod. The light falls vertically onto the hanging clothes and lights the space between the rod and the floor. The diffuser turns the points of light into an even line, and the profile protects the strip when you put boxes away on the shelf.

Why 4000K? It is a neutral white: warm enough to be pleasant, neutral enough to faithfully reproduce the colours and textures of your clothes. A white that is too yellow distorts the shades, and a white that is too bluish gives a cold, store-like light.

Motion sensor: the light turns on when the door opens

A wardrobe with a motion sensor is the most practical setup: the light turns on as soon as you open the door or step into the walk-in closet, then switches itself off after an adjustable delay. No more hunting for a switch in the dark, no more light left on all day. The sensor, low voltage like the strip, sits discreetly near the door. It is the ideal solution for a wardrobe with no wall switch.

Walk-in closet and dressing room: a lighting plan by zones

A walk-in closet or dressing room has several sections: shelves, hanging areas, drawers, niches. Each one is lit in its own way: strip under every shelf for storage, puck lights in the ceiling for general light, and accent lighting in niches or decorative sections. In the drawers, a strip on a magnetic contact lights the inside when you open them, handy in a room with no window. Each zone can have its own circuit or share the same power supply, depending on the total wattage.

#600R and #600S puck lights for the ceiling and shelves

For the general light of a walk-in or to light a shoe rack, LED puck lights are discreet and easy to place. The round #600R puck light and the square #600S puck light have a low profile that disappears under a shelf or on the ceiling. Combined with strip, they prevent dark corners at the back of a large wardrobe.

Harmony or Galaxy LED mirror to check the outfit

In a dressing room or near the vanity, an LED mirror lets you check an outfit and its colours in light close to daylight. At 3000K, the light is warm and flattering; at 4000K, it lets you match colours precisely. Medicine cabinet models, such as the Harmony cabinet LED mirror and the Galaxy cabinet LED mirror, add storage behind the glass for jewellery and accessories.

Profile and strip cut to the length of your shelves

There is no need to cut and solder a roll yourself. In our custom LED designer, you enter the length of each shelf or upright, and the profile and strip are cut to that size, ready to install. No cutting on site, and a line of light that runs from one end of the shelf to the other.

Technical tips for wardrobe lighting

Light the clothes, not the eyes. The strip goes under the front of the shelf, aimed at the rod, so you never see the source when you open the door.

Choose a frosted diffuser. It erases the points of light, which show right away when the strip is at eye level.

Hide the power supply. A compact 12V or 24V power supply fits in the wall cavity or behind the back of the cabinet.

Run it end to end. A line of light that stops short of the end of the shelf leaves a dark corner and is noticed immediately.

One sensor per door. In a two-door wardrobe, each side must turn on the light, or half of it stays in the dark.

Wardrobe Lights FAQ

Which wardrobe lights with a sensor should I choose?

A 4000K LED strip in a diffuser profile, under the top shelf, connected to a low-voltage motion sensor near the door. The light turns on when the door opens and switches off by itself after an adjustable delay. For a walk-in, place the sensor where it can see the entrance to the room.

What colour temperature for a wardrobe?

4000K, a neutral white, is recommended: it faithfully reproduces the colours of your clothes while staying pleasant. Keep 3000K for a mirror where you want a more flattering light.

Can the LED strip be cut to the length of my shelf?

Yes. With the custom LED designer, you enter your lengths and the strip and profile arrive cut to size, ready to install. You can also buy the strip on a roll and cut it yourself at the marked cut points.

How do I light a large walk-in closet?

By zones: puck lights on the ceiling for general light, strip under each shelf and along the hanging areas for detail, and an LED mirror for the outfit. One or more power supplies feed the whole system depending on the total wattage, and a motion sensor turns the room on when you walk in.

Where does the power supply for wardrobe lighting go?

In the wall cavity, at the back of the cabinet or in a neighbouring room, somewhere it can be reached. A compact 12V or 24V model is enough for most wardrobes; it must stay ventilated and never be buried in insulation.
