LED under cabinet lights
LED under cabinet kitchen lighting is one of the most impactful upgrades for a countertop: clean, even light across the entire work surface, no dark spots, no heat, no bulb replacements. LEDCO offers the complete solution — aluminum profile + LED strip + transformer + controller — available in standard lengths or custom-assembled to the exact dimensions of your cabinets. Ships Canada-wide.
Aluminum Profile #86 — The Under Cabinet LED Solution
Profile #86 is the LED channel designed specifically for under cabinet installation. Its flat, low-profile body mounts flush under the bottom shelf of the cabinet — virtually invisible from standing eye level. The frosted diffuser completely masks individual LED chips and produces perfectly uniform linear light across the full countertop length. Result: high-end kitchen lighting appearance with no visible hot spots, no visible joints. Profile #85 is available as an alternative for configurations requiring a slightly different form factor. Both accept 12V or 24V LED strips with frosted or clear diffuser.
The LEDCO Builder — Exact Length, Assembled for You
The LEDCO difference for under cabinet lighting: our custom manufacturing tool lets you order the aluminum profile cut and LED strip assembled to the exact length of your cabinets. Enter your precise measurement (in inches or cm), LEDCO cuts the profile, inserts the LED strip and ships you a ready-to-mount fixture — no cutting, no soldering, no on-site adjustments needed. Ideal for kitchens with multiple cabinet sections at different lengths (e.g., 36 inches on one side, 24 on the other). Each section ships with its power connector. Compatible with all LEDCO 12V and 24V transformers.
LED Strips Under Cabinets — Choosing the Right Density and Wattage
For under cabinet task lighting, an LED strip at 8-12W/m in 24V delivers ample, uniform light across the countertop. 24V is recommended for runs over 2 m — it limits voltage drop and ensures identical brightness from the first to the last centimetre of the strip. Color temperature: 3000K for a warm ambiance that complements wood or warm-white cabinetry, 4000K for crisp task light ideal for food preparation (accurate color rendering of food and surfaces). In variable CCT format, switch from 2700K to 5000K based on time of day — warmth in the evening, clarity in the morning.
LED Transformers — Right-Sized Power Supply for Your Install
Every under cabinet LED installation requires a transformer (LED driver) matched to the total strip wattage. The transformer converts 120V AC from the grid to 12V or 24V DC to power the strip. Simple rule: add up the wattage of all strips (e.g., 3 sections at 60 cm × 8W/m = 3 × 0.6 × 8 = 14.4 W) and choose a transformer rated at least 20% above that total (in this case: 18W minimum, so a 24W or 30W unit). LEDCO stocks compact transformers (slim case or DIN-rail format) that tuck easily into the upper cabinet above the countertop or the cabinet above the range hood. UL/cUL certified for the Canadian market.
Controllers and Remotes — Dimmer, RGB and CCT
Under cabinet LED lighting can range from simple dimming to full color control, depending on the strip type. For variable-white (CCT) strips, a CCT controller adjusts both intensity and color temperature from a remote or app. For RGB or RGBW strips, an RGB controller (infrared remote, RF remote or Bluetooth/WiFi app) unlocks millions of colors and dynamic lighting effects — great for a kitchen open to a living or dining area. LEDCO controllers are compatible with 12V and 24V transformers and install inline between the transformer and the strip.
LED Puck Lights Under Cabinets — The Spot Alternative
If you prefer discrete point sources rather than a continuous light line, LED puck lights are an under cabinet option — particularly for islands or short cabinet runs. They produce a concentrated beam rather than linear light, which can create shadows between fixtures over a long span. Best suited for short distances or accent use rather than as primary countertop task lighting. Discreet form factor, easy installation by drilling or adhesive.
Under Cabinet Technical Tips
- Length → measure the interior of each cabinet section (not the exterior face)
- Voltage → 12V up to 2 m per run, 24V for 2 m and over
- Strip wattage → 8-12W/m for task lighting, 4-6W/m for decorative accent
- Transformer → total wattage of all strips × 1.25 (safety margin)
- Diffuser → frosted = soft even light, clear = more direct and punchy output
- Color temperature → 3000K for warm ambiance, 4000K for task kitchen, CCT for both
- Controller → dimmer for fixed white, CCT controller for tunable white, RGB for color
