LED SHOWER LIGHTS

Shower lighting is one of the most technically demanding challenges in residential lighting design: a wet zone with constant steam, strict electrical zone requirements under Canadian code, and high aesthetic expectations since the bathroom has become a personal wellness space. The wrong fixture in a shower creates serious electrical hazards, moisture infiltration and premature failure within the first year. By contrast, a properly selected IP65 or IP67 LED recessed light lasts 20 years, withstands daily steam exposure and transforms the shower into a flattering, evenly lit environment. LEDCO supplies waterproof LED fixtures certified for shower use, shipped across Canada.

IP65/IP67 LED Recessed Lights for Shower Ceilings: The Reliable Standard

A waterproof LED recessed fixture is the standard luminaire for a shower ceiling in a residential bathroom. The fundamental difference from an ordinary pot light: an IP65 rating (protected against water jets) or IP67 rating (temporarily submersible) ensures that no humidity, steam or direct water spray can penetrate the electrical housing. For a shower ceiling, a 4-inch recessed fixture in 3000K (warm white) or 4000K (neutral white) with CRI 90+ is ideal. The high color rendering index is essential for skin to look natural and for the colors of tiles and fixtures to be rendered accurately. Plan for a minimum of 50 lux at body level — typically one 10W to 15W recessed fixture for a standard 36×36-inch shower stall, or two fixtures for a walk-in shower of 60×36 inches or larger. Browse our selection of LED recessed ceiling lights to find an IP65 model that fits your shower ceiling cutout.

IP67 LED Strips in Waterproof Profiles: Shower Niches and Soffits

For accent lighting inside a shower niche, along a built-in bench or under a dropped ceiling cornice within the shower enclosure, an IP67 LED strip inside a waterproof aluminum profile delivers exceptional architectural integration. IP67 means the strip can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes — far more than what any shower steam or splash can produce. The recommended density is 60 to 120 LEDs per meter depending on the niche length and the desired lumen output. In 3000K inside a shower niche, the strip creates an elegant depth effect that highlights tiles, personal care products and shower accessories. A surface-mount or recessed aluminum profile with a milky diffuser protects the strip mechanically and produces a continuous, hotspot-free line of light compatible with ceramic tile and marble. The entire low-voltage system must be powered by a 12V or 24V transformer located outside the wet zone (Zone 3 minimum).

Integrated LED Shower Niche: Spa Effect and Visual Comfort

A lit shower niche is one of the most sought-after design features in high-end Quebec bathrooms. A 15 to 30 cm IP67 LED strip in 3000K or 2700K placed at the back of the niche creates a luminous halo around shampoo bottles and accessories, transforming a functional storage space into an architectural detail. For the niche, choose a high-density strip (120 LEDs/m minimum) to prevent visible hotspots on the niche walls. If your niche is faced with marble or natural stone, 2700K (very warm white) will particularly enhance the veins and tonal variations of the stone. The niche strip must be powered via a cable run through the wall to a transformer located in the plumbing cavity or behind the drywall — always in Zone 3, more than 60 cm from any water source. Backlit LED bathroom mirrors installed opposite the shower perfectly complement the spa atmosphere with even, shadow-free facial lighting.

Wet-Zone Dimmers and CSA-Certified LED Transformers

In wet zones (shower, bathtub), the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) requires specific components for any dimmable installation. The dimmer must be CSA-certified and rated for wet-zone use, or installed outside the wet zone (Zone 3 minimum, more than 60 cm from the shower) if using a standard wall dimmer. LEDCO's dimmable LED power supplies are available in 12V and 24V versions with 0-10V or PWM output for precise lumen control. A GFCI breaker is mandatory on all circuits within 1.5 m of a shower or bathtub under the CEC — your electrician will install it at the panel or as a dedicated wall outlet. Avoid cheap uncertified dimmers that cause visible flickering with LED strips — choose a dimmer with a PWM switching frequency of 1000 Hz or higher for stable, eye-fatigue-free lighting.

LED Shower Lighting Technical Tips

  • Protection rating → IP65 minimum for ceiling recessed fixtures; IP67 required for strips inside niches or bench areas
  • CRI → 90+ recommended for natural skin rendering and accurate color of tiles, marble and stone
  • Color temperature → 3000K–4000K for shower ceiling; 2700K–3000K for niche accent and spa ambiance
  • CEC zones → Zone 0 (in water): IP67+; Zone 1 (water reach): IP65+; Zone 2 (60 cm): IP44+
  • Transformer → always in Zone 3 (outside shower), CSA certified, never inside a wet junction box
  • GFCI → mandatory on all circuits within 1.5 m of a water source (CEC Article 26)
  • Flickering → select a 1000 Hz+ PWM dimmer to avoid visible flicker and eye strain
