LED CLOSET LIGHT OTTAWA
LED closet and wardrobe lighting is often the last priority in a renovation, but it is one of the spaces where good lighting makes the biggest daily difference — finding the right pair of shoes, distinguishing navy from black, clearly seeing clothing labels and colors. LEDCO offers complete LED solutions for walk-in and reach-in closets, from under-shelf strips to automatic PIR sensors, shipped across Canada.
Under-Shelf LED Strips in Aluminum Profiles — Precise Task Lighting
The most elegant solution for a walk-in closet is a 4000K LED strip integrated into an aluminum profile mounted under each shelf. Unlike a central overhead fixture that creates shadow zones behind hanging garments and under shelves, under-shelf strips illuminate the working area directly — the closet floor, shoes on lower shelves, folded clothing. At 4000K (neutral white), the light faithfully reproduces clothing colors — critical for distinguishing navy from black or shades of grey. A 24V 60 LEDs/m strip in an aluminum profile with opal diffuser produces a uniform line of light with no visible hot spots. A dimmable LED power supply lets you adjust intensity based on time of day.
PIR Sensor — Automatic Activation When the Door Opens
Automating the closet via a PIR motion sensor or a magnetic door switch (reed switch) is the most practical solution. A 360° PIR ceiling sensor in a walk-in detects any presence and instantly activates the lights — no switch to find in the dark, no lights accidentally left on. For reach-in closets (hinged or sliding doors), a magnetic door switch is more appropriate than a PIR — it activates only when the door opens and turns off automatically when closed, eliminating any risk of leaving lights on. The adjustable off-delay (2 to 10 minutes) provides enough time to get dressed without maintaining active presence in front of the sensor.
USB Rechargeable LED Lighting — No Wiring Required
For closets and wardrobes without electrical access — secondary closets, guest room wardrobes, indoor storage cabinets — USB-C rechargeable LED bars are the no-installation solution. These 30 to 60 cm bars offer 3 to 8 hours of runtime in normal use and activate via an integrated door magnet or built-in PIR sensor. A full charge takes 2 to 4 hours via a standard USB cable. These solutions do not replace wired lighting for a primary walk-in, but are perfect for secondary spaces. The absence of wiring makes installation instant and reversible — no ceiling drilling, no electrician required.
Walk-In vs Reach-In — Tailored Lighting Strategy
Lighting strategy differs by closet type. For a walk-in (wardrobe with circulation), the priority is eliminating shadow zones by combining general ceiling lighting for orientation, under-shelf strips for detailed shelf and hanging rod lighting, and a mirror with integrated lighting if the walk-in also serves as a dressing room. For a reach-in (deep closet with hinged or sliding doors), space is too limited for multi-layer lighting — one LED bar under the top shelf with a door sensor covers 80 percent of needs. Corner blind spots in a reach-in are addressed with a short LED strip in a corner-angle profile. The LED strip selection must account for closet depth and the maximum strip length without intermediate power injection.
Technical Tips — LED Closet and Wardrobe Lighting
- Recommended temperature: 4000K (clothing color identification) — avoid warm yellow 2700K
- CRI 90+ recommended for a walk-in dressing room (accurate color rendering)
- Under-shelf strip: 24V 60 LEDs/m in aluminum profile + opal diffuser
- Power supply: calculate W/m times total length plus 20% safety margin
- PIR sensor: 360° ceiling mount for walk-in | Reed switch for reach-in door
- PIR off-delay: set to 5-10 min for walk-in, 2-3 min for reach-in
- Rechargeable battery: ideal for closets without electrical access (100-200 lm sufficient)
- Avoid bluish 6000K+ LEDs in a closet — eye fatigue and poor color rendering
