RGB LED DECORATIVE LIGHTING CHAMBLY

RGB LED lighting opens the full visible spectrum to transform any space into a dynamic, personalized environment. From analog RGB LED strips to WS2812 addressable LEDs with pixel-by-pixel effects, through Wi-Fi and DMX controllers for professional installations, LEDCO offers complete RGB components for residential, commercial and stage projects, shipped across Canada.

RGB 5050 SMD LED Strips — Uniform Analog Color

RGB 5050 SMD LED strips are the foundation of decorative color lighting. Each 5050 RGB LED integrates three chips (red, green, blue) in a 5x5 mm package, producing millions of colors through additive mixing. The standard configuration is 30 or 60 LEDs per meter at 12V or 24V. At 60 LEDs/m, the luminous density is sufficient for indirect lighting behind a cornice, under furniture or in an architectural niche. Analog RGB means all LEDs on the strip change color simultaneously via the control signal — perfect for uniform ambient lighting in a living room, bar or bedroom. For more sophisticated effects with different color zones on the same strip, addressable strips are required.

WS2812 Addressable Strips — Pixel-by-Pixel Effects

WS2812B addressable LED strips integrate a digital control circuit into each LED, enabling individual programming of each light point. This unlocks chasing, rainbow, pixel art, music-reactive and cinematic sequences impossible with analog RGB strips. These strips operate at 5V (WS2812B) or 12V/24V (SK6812 RGBW), with densities of 30, 60 or 144 LEDs/m. For building facades, stage installations and handcrafted LED screens, WS2812B with Arduino, Raspberry Pi or WLED controllers is the de facto standard. Aluminum profiles with diffusers allow integrating these strips into clean architectural finishes while dissipating the heat generated by high LED densities.

Wi-Fi, IR and DMX Controllers — From Living Room to Stage

The controller is the brain of the RGB installation. Wi-Fi controllers enable smartphone app control, integration with voice assistants (Alexa, Google Home) and creation of scenes and schedules. IR controllers with remote control are the economical solution for residential users without smart home needs. For events, nightclubs and stage installations, the DMX512 protocol is the professional standard — each DMX controller receives a digital signal on up to 512 channels, enabling synchronization of hundreds of RGB fixtures from a lighting console. The appropriate dimmable LED power supply must be sized to total strip wattage (W/m times metres, plus a 20% safety margin).

Aluminum Profiles and Diffusers — Professional Finish

Integrating RGB LED strips into aluminum profiles with opal or clear diffusers transforms a raw strip installation into a professional architectural luminaire. The aluminum profile dissipates heat generated by the strip (critical for densities of 60 LEDs/m+), protects the strip from mechanical damage, and the opal diffuser creates a uniform line of light with no visible hot spots. For indirect RGB lighting behind a cornice or niche, the recessed U-profile is the most discreet option. For RGB light lines in relief on a wall or under a staircase, surface-mount or suspended profiles offer maximum visual impact while concealing the LED strip.

Technical Tips — RGB LED Lighting

  • Voltage: 5V (WS2812B addressable) | 12V or 24V (analog RGB and SK6812)
  • Density: 30 LEDs/m (indirect/ambiance) | 60 LEDs/m (standard) | 144 LEDs/m (fine effects)
  • Power supply wattage: W/m times length times 1.2 (20% margin)
  • RGB 5050: 3 channels (R+G+B) | RGBW SK6812: 4 channels (+ dedicated white)
  • Wi-Fi controller: check WLED/Home Assistant compatibility before purchasing
  • DMX512: maximum 512 channels per universe (1 channel per color per fixture)
  • Opal diffuser: LED dots invisible, flux reduced approximately 30% | Clear: dots visible, maximum flux
  • Thermal management: aluminum profile required for more than 60 LEDs/m in prolonged use
