OUTDOOR LED SOLAR LIGHTS
Solar LED lights are the answer when there is no power where you need to see: the end of a long driveway, a trail, a shed, a roadside sign. The panel captures the sun by day and the fixture turns on at night, with no wiring, no trenching and no electrician. LEDCO carries a complete range of LED solar lighting, from the 1 W solar stair light to the 50 W hybrid floodlight: floodlights, a post light, a bollard, wall packs, a sign fixture and garden fixtures.
How a solar LED light works
The principle is the same from one model to the next: a panel charges a battery during the day and, once night falls, the battery powers the LEDs. There is no wire to run from the building, which changes everything in landscaping that is already finished, on a property where digging would cost too much or on a site far from the grid. The choice then depends on the zone: a high point for an entrance, low light for a path, directed light for a façade or a sign.
20 W solar floodlight and 30 W and 50 W hybrid floodlights: accent and security
The 20 W 4000K solar floodlight is the all-purpose solar spotlight: it lights a façade, a tree, a backyard or the door of a detached garage without any connection. For more reach, the 30 W CCT hybrid solar LED floodlight also lets you choose the colour temperature, and the 50 W hybrid floodlight takes on the largest areas, such as a storage yard or a site entrance.
20 W solar post light: driveways, paths and trails
At the end of a long driveway, along a trail or at the entrance to a cottage, the 20 W solar post light provides light from above without running wire over dozens of metres. It also suits parks, rest areas and municipal grounds. Mounted high, it covers a larger area than a ground-level fixture and becomes a landmark visible from afar, for pedestrians and vehicles alike.
500 lm solar bollard: marking a path without trenching
The 500 lm 4000K solar bollard marks a pedestrian path, a parking lot edge or the perimeter of a shared terrace. Unlike a wired bollard, it needs no cable under the pavers or the lawn: it is the ideal way to add wayfinding without reopening finished landscaping. Its low light guides your steps without glare, and you add more over the seasons, one bollard at a time.
15 W and 20 W solar wall packs: sheds, detached garages and service doors
A shed, a detached garage, a site container or the back door of a store often have one thing in common: no power nearby. The 15 W solar LED wall pack and the 20 W mini solar LED wall pack mount on the wall and light the access as soon as night falls. They make evening comings and goings safer, for a suburban shed as much as for a farm building.
4 ft sign fixture and 1 W stair light: the small, precise needs
A roadside sign, in front of a business, a farm or a campground, does not always have power nearby. The 4 ft 20 W 4000K solar sign fixture lights the sign at night so your name stays visible after sunset. For the steps of an outdoor staircase, a patio or a dock, the 1 W 4000K solar stair light marks each step with a small light that makes evening footing safer.
15 in and 19 in Tulum fixtures: flower beds and the garden
In flower beds and along residential paths, the 19 in Tulum solar LED fixture and its 15 in version provide decorative ambient light, with no wire and no transformer. If part of the property is already powered, the low-voltage PICO, LUNA and SCOOP fixtures in our LED landscaping section complement them very well; see also our page on LED garden lights.
Solar or wired: how to choose for each zone
The two families complement each other. Here is how we spread them across a property:
- Far from any outlet: solar, no question. Property entrance, sign, shed, dock, trail.
- Landscaping already finished: solar, so you never reopen the pavers or the lawn.
- Near the house, with a transformer: wired low voltage, for constant light all year and control by photocell or timer.
- Shaded all day long: wired, because a panel without sun does not charge.
Technical tips for solar LED lights that last
Face the panel south. That is where it gets the most sun over the day; a panel facing north or tucked behind a wall barely charges.
Stay clear of shade from trees and buildings. A shadow crossing the panel a few hours a day cuts the charge, and therefore the run time at night.
Clear the snow after every snowfall. In Quebec, the short days of December and January already reduce charging time; a snow-covered panel stops charging altogether.
Expect less run time in winter. Intense cold puts batteries to the test. For an access that must stay lit all night in January, go wired or choose a more powerful fixture than the strict minimum.

Solar LED lights FAQ
Do solar LED lights work in winter in Quebec?
Yes, as long as you give them sun: panel facing south, away from shade and cleared of snow. Short days and cold reduce the run time; for an access that must stay lit all night, a wired fixture remains the safest choice.
Do I need an electrician to install solar LED lights?
No, and that is exactly the point. No wire connects the fixture to the building: you mount it on a wall, a post or in the ground, aim the panel, and it turns on by itself at dark. An electrician only becomes necessary for a wired fixture.
Can I add solar fixtures to landscaping that is already done?
It is the ideal case. With no trench and no cable, you add a bollard, a solar spotlight or a stair light without touching the pavers, the lawn or the flower beds, and you round out the set from one season to the next.
What does "hybrid" mean on the 30 W and 50 W floodlights?
They are the two most powerful floodlights in the solar range, designed for large areas such as a storage yard or a site entrance. The 30 W also offers a choice of colour temperature (CCT). The details of how each one works are on its spec sheet; write to us if you are hesitating between the two.
