LED CHALET LIGHTS

Chalet lighting is first a question of voltage: at the cottage, low voltage settles almost everything. A single power supply, or the battery system of an off-grid chalet, feeds the strips in the beams, the recessed lights in the wood ceiling and the fixtures on the dock. LEDCO supplies the whole chain: 12 V or 24 V LED strips, a 24 V LED recessed light for the wood ceiling, 12-24 V landscape fixtures for the deck and the path, and solar fixtures where no wire reaches.

Chalet lighting on 12 volts: why low voltage wins

Three situations come up in almost every chalet. Low voltage answers all three:

  • Chalet on the grid: a power supply hidden in a closet converts the house current, and the low-voltage wire runs along the beams.
  • Off-grid chalet: the battery system already runs on direct current; 12 V or 24 V fixtures connect to it without going through an inverter, which we confirm with you for your installation.
  • Outdoors, dock and path: a low-voltage wire is buried shallow and connected in a sealed box, with no deep trench.

12 V or 24 V LED strips in the exposed beams

The signature lighting of a chalet is LED strips slid into a groove under the ceiling beams, in pine, cedar or oak. The light falls into the room, warms the tones of the wood and creates a fireside evening mood no ceiling fixture can match. In 2700 K, the warmest white, golden wood glows; a recessed aluminum profile in the beam protects the strip and makes the line perfectly even. Our custom design tool cuts profile and strip to the length of each beam.

DLF 4" 24 V LED recessed light and integrated LED fixtures for the wood ceiling

A plank or drywall ceiling needs general light on top of the beams. The DLF 4" round slim 24 V 8 W LED recessed light is made for a chalet: slim, it fits a ceiling with no space above it, and it runs off the same 24 V power supply as the strips. The rest of the LED ceiling downlights range covers drywall ceilings; when the wood ceiling cannot be cut, an integrated LED fixture screws to the surface. Keep the same warm white everywhere: beams and recessed lights in the same tone is what gives the room its unity.

Deck, porch and dock: puck lights, outdoor strips and the 12-24 V PICO

Outside, low voltage carries on. LED puck lights in the risers of the porch steps, an outdoor LED strip under the handrail, and on the dock, a line of light under the railing that guides night departures by boat. The PICO LED outdoor spotlight (12-24 V) lights a tree or the facade from the ground, and the 2.5 W LED stair light marks each step. Use 3000 K outside: still warm, but a little more readable than the 2700 K of the beams.

Paths and parking: solar fixtures with no wire

For the path to the chalet, the boathouse surroundings or the parking area, solar LED fixtures install with no wiring at all: the panel charges the battery by day and the fixture comes on at dusk. The 20 W solar post fixture lights the entrance and the parking area, the 1 W solar stair light marks the steps of the path, and the 30 W CCT hybrid solar LED floodlight covers a facade or a distant dock.

LUVIA power supply, IP68 junction box and 18/2 wire: wiring the chalet

A low-voltage installation comes down to three parts. The 12 V or 24 V LED power supply, chosen with headroom over the sum of the watts, stays indoors or under cover; for the garden and the dock, the LUVIA 100 W outdoor power supply goes near the porch. Outdoor connections are made in a waterproof outdoor junction box IP68, and the 100-foot 18/2 outdoor landscaping wire links the fixtures along the path. Over a long run, 24 V holds its voltage better than 12 V; our 12 V and 24 V voltage drop chart page explains how to work it out.

Technical tips for chalet lighting

Choose 24 V when the distances grow. Along a long beam or out to the dock, 12 V loses voltage and the end of the line goes pale; 24 V holds up better.

One white indoors, 2700 K. Wood changes tone as soon as two whites are mixed; the recessed lights follow the beams.

Keep the power supply dry and reachable. In a closet or a utility room, never in a damp crawl space or behind a closed wall.

Allow headroom on the wattage. Take the power supply above the sum of the watts connected; at its maximum, it heats up and ages fast.

Off-grid, tell us about your system before buying. The battery voltage and the fixture voltage have to match, and it is a five-minute check that avoids a bad surprise.

Chalet lighting FAQ

Which fixtures when the chalet is off-grid?

LED strips and fixtures in 12 V or 24 V, depending on the voltage of your battery bank, connected in direct current without going through an inverter. Send us the system voltage and the list of rooms to light: we confirm each product before you order.

12 V or 24 V for a chalet?

24 V in most cases: it loses less voltage along long beams and out to the dock, and it powers the DLF 24 V recessed light as well as the strips. 12 V makes sense when the battery system is already 12 V. Our voltage drop page helps you decide based on your lengths.

What colour temperature with wood walls?

2700 K indoors: it is the warmest white, the one that brings out pine and cedar. Outside, 3000 K stays warm while reading steps and the dock better.

How do I light the path and the dock without digging a trench?

Two ways. The 18/2 low-voltage wire is buried shallow and connected in an IP68 junction box; or solar fixtures are planted with no wire at all, with their own panel and battery. The dock is often handled with solar, the path near the house with low voltage.

Can I keep the same mood indoors and out?

Yes, by staying in warm whites and hiding the source everywhere: strip in a profile under the beams inside, outdoor strip under the handrail and puck lights in the risers outside. The porch then reads as an extension of the living room.
