LED LAUNDRY ROOM LIGHTS

The right LED laundry room light makes a real difference: spotting a stain before the wash, sorting colours without mistakes, reading the care label, and working in a pleasant room rather than a dark closet. LEDCO supplies the three layers of light a laundry room needs: LED recessed lights or a 1x4 LED panel on the ceiling, an LED strip in a profile above the folding counter, and puck lights under the storage shelves.

Which laundry room lighting for which ceiling: finished, dropped or open

The first question is not wattage, it is the ceiling. It decides the general fixture, and the rest is added around it:

  • Finished drywall ceiling: slim LED recessed lights, spread above the machines and the counter, not in the centre of the room.
  • Drop ceiling: a 1x4 or 2x2 LED panel set in the grid, in place of a tile.
  • Open ceiling, exposed joists: an integrated LED fixture screwed to the surface under a joist, with no cut-out.

In all three cases, aim for a neutral to cool white, and add task light above the counter: that is what removes the shadows on the laundry.

DLX 4" and DLS-HP 15 W LED recessed lights for a drywall ceiling

In a laundry room with a finished ceiling, LED ceiling downlights give clean, integrated general lighting. The slim DLX 4" round 8 W LED recessed light installs without a housing and suits small rooms; the DLS-HP 4" 15 W LED recessed light brings more light when the laundry room doubles as a workshop or storage. Near the washer and dryer, where steam circulates, check each model's data sheet for the protection rating suited to the location. Connected to a compatible dimmer, the recessed lights dim down when the room is only a passageway.

1x4 LED panel in a drop ceiling, integrated LED fixture under an open ceiling

In a basement with a drop ceiling, the 1x4 LED panel (25W-30W-36W) replaces a tile and lights the whole room with flat light, with no hot spot on the machines. The 2x2 format does the same job in a square room; all formats are in our LED panel lights. When the joists stay exposed, an integrated LED fixture screws to the surface and connects to the existing box, with no cut-out. It is the same logic as in a garage: the fixture follows the structure.

4000 K LED strip in the #86 profile above the folding counter

An LED strip in 4000 K inside an aluminum profile mounted under the cabinets or the shelf above the folding or ironing counter lights the work surface directly: no cast shadow, and light crisp enough to inspect a fabric. It is the same solution as under kitchen cabinets, with the #86 profile, but in a cooler white than a kitchen's 2700 K. Our custom design tool cuts the profile and the strip to the exact width of your counter, and the fixture arrives ready to screw in place.

#600 LED puck lights and strip under the storage shelves

Detergent shelves, accessory cabinets and the broom closet are better lit from the inside: every container becomes visible at a glance. Under a deep shelf, a short strip in a profile; under a narrow shelf or inside a cabinet, a round #600R LED puck light or its square twin, the #600S LED puck light, chosen to match the style of the doors. The whole family of decorative LED puck lights follows this principle, and the same principle works in a wardrobe.

4000 K or 5000 K: sorting colours and seeing stains

Colour temperature matters more here than in a living room. 5000 K, a daylight white, renders clothing colours very faithfully: it is the choice for sorting and stain inspection. 4000 K, a neutral white, stays crisp while being softer: it is the right compromise when the laundry room is also a passageway or a hobby corner. Avoid warm white on the ceiling: it flatters wood, but it yellows white laundry and hides stains.

Power supply, dimmer and sensor: the laundry room that switches itself on

Low-voltage strips and puck lights connect to a 12 V or 24 V LED power supply, chosen according to the total length installed, with some headroom. A compatible LED dimmer or controller lets you lower the light in the evening. And since you often walk in with your arms full of laundry, a motion sensor that switches the ceiling on at the door, or lights the cabinet when it opens, saves hunting for the switch in the dark.

Technical tips for laundry room lighting

Task light comes from in front. A ceiling light behind you throws your shadow on the counter; the strip under the cabinet lights the surface with no shadow.

Spread the recessed lights above the work zones. A single point in the centre leaves the machines and the counter in half-light.

Keep the power supply away from steam. It goes in a dry cabinet or above the cabinets, never behind the dryer.

Near the washer, the data sheet decides. The protection rating varies from one model to the next; the spec sheet decides, not habit.

One white throughout the room. Ceiling and counter in the same colour temperature, otherwise the laundry changes shade from one spot to another.

LED laundry room light FAQ

Which LED laundry room light for a room with no window?

Two layers of light rather than one big ceiling fixture: recessed lights or a 1x4 panel on the ceiling, in 4000 K or 5000 K, and a strip in a profile above the counter. It is the task light, not the ceiling, that makes the room feel bright.

4000 K or 5000 K for a laundry room?

5000 K if the priority is sorting colours and spotting stains; 4000 K if the room is also a passageway or a hobby corner. In both cases, keep the same white on the ceiling and at the counter.

Can I put a recessed light right above the washer?

It depends on the model. Steam and humidity circulate around the machines, and the protection rating varies from one recessed light to the next. Read the data sheet of the model you choose, or move the recessed light above the counter, where it is more useful.

How do I light the folding counter without shadows?

With an LED strip in an aluminum profile mounted under the cabinet or the shelf, across the full width of the counter. The light falls in front of you, not behind, and the profile's diffuser removes the bright dots. The custom design tool cuts it to the exact width.
