LED LIGHTS

Choosing LED lights rarely starts with the fixture. You start with the room, the use and the atmosphere you want, then pick the product family, the colour temperature and the colour rendering. An LED produces light with no filament to heat and no gas to excite: hence a much lower consumption than incandescent, halogen or fluorescent, and a lifespan measured in tens of thousands of hours. LEDCO covers homes, businesses and industry, with the technical guidance to make the right choice.

Where to start: the room and the use before the fixture

This page is the crossroads. If you already know which room you are lighting, that room's page gives you a complete plan, product by product. The most visited:

  • The bedroom: warm white, everything dimmable, a strip behind the headboard; see LED lights for bedroom.
  • The kitchen: under-cabinet, island and ceiling, in neutral white; see LED kitchen lights.
  • The office: panels in the suspended ceiling, recessed lights in drywall, emergency lighting; see office lighting.
  • Outdoors: façade, entrance, deck and parking; see outdoor LED lighting.

Colour temperature: the first choice, before the model

Expressed in kelvins, colour temperature sets the mood. From 2700 K to 3000 K, light is warm and restful: bedroom, living room, dining room. At 4000 K, a neutral white supports concentration: kitchen, home office, bathroom. From 5000 K to 6500 K, you reproduce daylight for a workshop or any space where precision matters. A room can be perfectly lit in lux and still give off the wrong atmosphere if the tone does not suit its use: that is why this choice comes before the model.

CRI: colour fidelity, and when it really matters

The colour rendering index measures colour fidelity against natural light, whose reference is 100. A CRI of 80 is enough for most residential and commercial uses. A CRI of 90 or more is recommended in a clothing store, a gallery or a kitchen, and a CRI of 95 or more for hairdressing, cosmetics or fine dining.

LED strips: indirect and accent lighting

Flexible and available in 12 V or 24 V, LED strips slip into coves, under cabinets, into staircases and onto curved surfaces. They are used mainly for indirect and accent lighting: a cornice that lights the ceiling, a shelf that seems to float, a step that stands out in the dark. They are powered by a 12 V or 24 V LED power supply chosen according to the length and wattage of the strip.

LED ceiling downlights: general lighting for the home

LED ceiling downlights are the reference solution for lighting a home in a clean, modern way. The DLT 4" round trimless 12W LED recessed light blends into the ceiling, while the DLS 4" round RGBW-CCT 9W LED recessed light lets you change the white tone, and even the colour, depending on the moment. In both cases, you choose them first by colour temperature, then by shape and wattage.

LED panels and track spotlights: commercial ceilings

In offices, meeting rooms and institutional spaces with suspended ceilings, LED panel lights deliver flat, uniform light. LEDCO offers them in three formats, the 2x2 panel (30W-36W-40W), the 2x4 LED panel (36W-40W-45W) and the 1x4 panel (25W-30W-36W), which take the place of old fluorescent troffers in the ceiling grid. 4000 K is a frequent choice there for office work.

To highlight a display, an artwork or an architectural feature, LED track spotlights slide and swivel along the track, an ideal solution for spaces whose layout changes often. It is also where CRI takes on its full meaning: it is the colour of the merchandise you are lighting.

LED high bays: large volumes

In warehouses, gymnasiums and high-ceiling workshops, LED high bays take over from downlights. Their wattage is chosen according to the height and the area to cover, and 347 V compatible models suit industrial installations.

Aluminum profiles cut to measure: the strip becomes a fixture

Aluminum profiles for LED strips turn a strip into a finished fixture: the diffuser gives a continuous line, with no visible dots, and the aluminum protects the strip and draws its heat away. LEDCO cuts profiles to the exact dimensions of each project, and the Custom Builder lets you order them online at the right length, strip soldered and end caps included, with a detailed quote and no payment taken.

Technical tips for choosing LED lights

Decide the colour temperature before the model. A good fixture in the wrong tone gives a cold or dull room; the kelvin is chosen room by room.

Keep the same tone within one room. Two different whites side by side show immediately, especially between a ceiling and a strip.

Raise the CRI where colour matters. Clothing, food, makeup, paint: 90 or more; elsewhere, 80 is enough.

Plan the dimming from the start. Fixture, dimmer and power supply must be compatible with each other; check it before buying, not after.

A strip is sized with its power supply. Length and wattage per metre give the load; the power supply is chosen above that total.

LED lights FAQ

What does LED mean?

LED stands for light-emitting diode. Light is created as current passes through a semiconductor, with no filament and no gas, hence the low consumption and the long lifespan.

Which LED lights should I start with in a house?

Ceiling downlights for general lighting, then a strip in a profile for indirect lighting wherever you want atmosphere. First set the colour temperature of each room, warm for resting rooms, neutral for the kitchen and the office, and choose the models afterwards.

What is the difference between 3000 K and 4000 K?

3000 K is a warm, slightly golden white made for rooms where you relax. 4000 K is a crisper neutral white that supports attention and reading. You do not mix them in the same room.

Do I need a high CRI everywhere?

No. A CRI of 80 suits the garage, the hallway and most rooms. You go to 90 or more where colour is judged: kitchen, closet, clothing store, hair salon.

Where do you buy LED lights for a whole project?

Every family on this page can be ordered from LEDCO, shipped across Canada. Profiles and strips are cut to your measurements in the Custom Builder, and for a residential or commercial project, contact the team: we advise you on the type of fixture, the wattage and the colour temperature.
