LED PARKING LIGHTS

Good parking lot lights protect people and property first: a poorly lit lot encourages incidents, discourages evening customers and gives a poor image of the business or building. LED fixtures reach the target light levels while using much less than the sodium or mercury lamps they replace. LEDCO supplies the fixtures for every zone, from the surface lot to underground parking, at 120-347 V, along with the sensors that lower the light when no one is around.

Parking lot lights: which fixture for which zone

A parking area breaks down into zones, and each one has its fixture. A good plan combines them:

  • Surface lot: pole-mounted fixtures (shoebox) that cover large areas.
  • Irregular corners and back yards: adjustable floodlights, on a pole or on the wall.
  • Around the building: wall packs above the entrances and the spaces next to the wall.
  • Covered or multi-level garage: UFO or linear high bays between the rows.
  • Underground parking: vapour-tight fixtures lined up along the aisles.

Pole-mounted LED fixtures (shoebox) for large lots

Mounted on a 15 to 30-foot pole, the shoebox fixture is the foundation of any surface parking lot lighting. From that height, it projects light downward and sideways, covering large areas with few light points. The number of poles and their spacing depend on the area, the mounting height and the target level: a photometric study, done before installation, shows how many fixtures your site needs. See our LED pole lights.

70W to 500W LED floodlights on poles or buildings

For an irregularly shaped lot, a back yard or an area a shoebox covers poorly, the floodlight is the versatile solution. The 70W-100W-150W LED floodlight suits small and medium areas, the 200W-240W-300W LED floodlight suits large lots, and the 400W-450W-500W LED floodlight suits very large areas. Mounted on an existing pole or on the wall with brackets for LED floodlights, these parking lot flood lights are aimed at the area to cover.

LED wall packs along the building and entrances

LED wall packs mounted on exterior walls light entrances, pedestrian walkways, parking spaces right next to the building and nearby loading areas. As parking lights, wall-mounted fixtures avoid installing poles and suit small lots. Models that direct light toward the ground limit glare and light wasted toward the sky. Choose models designed for outdoor use that withstand rain, snow, frost and summer heat.

UFO and linear high bays for covered parking

In a covered garage or a multi-level parking structure, the lighting must be uniform between rows of vehicles. Suspended from the ceiling or mounted on concrete structures, LED high bays meet this need. The 90W-120W-150W LED UFO highbay suits ceilings high enough for a suspended fixture, while linear high bays spread light along the driving aisles. At 120-347 V, they fit the electrical installations of large buildings and make solid parking garage lighting.

4' and 8' vapour-tight fixtures for underground parking

Underground parking combines humidity, de-icing salt and low ceilings. The 4' 3CCT LED vaportight fixture and the 4' 60W multi-watt NEMA 4X LED vapour-tight fixture are enclosed fixtures, designed to keep their components sheltered from water and dust. Their linear shape lines up naturally with the aisles, and the 8' CCT LED vaportight fixture covers the longest runs.

Bluetooth PIR and microwave sensors: lower the light at night

A parking lot often sits empty for much of the night. The PIR Bluetooth sensor for LED highbay or the microwave sensor for LED highbay lower the intensity when no one passes and instantly restore full power on detection, with no compromise on safety. For other dimmable fixtures, the ceiling PIR Bluetooth sensor 120-347V with 0-10V dimming does the same job on a garage ceiling.

Technical tips for parking lot lighting

Do the photometric study before buying. It sets the number of poles, their height and their spacing to reach the target level everywhere on the lot.

Aim the light at the ground. A fixture that lights the sky or the neighbours' windows wastes energy and dazzles drivers.

Cover the surroundings too. Entrances, walkways and loading areas are often forgotten when you only think about poles.

Go vapour-tight underground. Humidity and de-icing salt quickly damage an open fixture; an enclosed model keeps its components dry.

Dim the light, not the safety. A sensor lowers the intensity when the lot is empty and returns to full power as soon as a vehicle or pedestrian passes.

LED Parking Lot Lights FAQ

What are the best parking lot lights?

For a surface lot, pole-mounted shoebox fixtures, backed up by wall packs along the building and floodlights in the irregular corners. The best setup combines these three types according to the shape of the lot, with sensors to lower the light when no one is around.

How many fixtures does a parking lot need?

It all depends on the area, the mounting height and the target light level. A photometric study, done before installation, calculates the number of fixtures and their spacing for your site. Send us the parking lot plan: that is the starting point.

How high should pole-mounted fixtures be installed?

A shoebox fixture is usually mounted on a 15 to 30-foot pole. The higher it is, the more area it covers, but the photometric study confirms the height and spacing that give even lighting across your lot.

Which fixture for a carport?

Under a permanent carport, an enclosed fixture such as the 4' LED vapour-tight fixture stands up to humidity and blowing snow. For an entrance or an adjoining wall, an LED wall pack lights the passage without a pole.

Can I reduce lighting at night without hurting safety?

Yes. Bluetooth PIR and microwave sensors lower the intensity when no one is around and instantly restore full power on detection. Night-time consumption drops sharply, and the lot stays lit as soon as a vehicle or pedestrian arrives.
