LED WAREHOUSE LIGHTS

Choosing warehouse LED lights starts with matching the right fixture to each ceiling height and each zone: racking aisles, picking area, docks, yard and parking. LEDCO supplies the full range for a distribution centre or a storage warehouse: UFO and linear LED high bays from 85W to 400W, all 120-347V, floodlights and wall packs for the exterior, emergency lighting and T8 tubes for existing fixtures. Here is how to build a warehouse lighting plan that works the first time.

Which warehouse LED lights for which ceiling height

Mounting height decides almost everything. The benchmarks we use with our customers:

  • Under 12 feet: T8 LED tubes in existing fixtures, or 4 and 8-foot integrated LED fixtures.
  • 12 to 20 feet: 90W-120W-150W UFO high bay or 85W-100W-130W-155W linear high bay.
  • 20 to 30 feet: 180W-200W-240W UFO high bay or 200W-230W-270W linear high bay.
  • 30 feet and up: 240W-270W-300W UFO high bay or 320W-360W-400W linear high bay.

Each listing groups several selectable wattages: you adjust the level from one zone to the next with a single fixture format, which keeps the spare-parts inventory simple and lets you standardize the whole building on two or three models.

UFO or linear: the format that follows your aisles

The 90W-120W-150W UFO high bay, round and compact, throws a circular 90° to 120° beam: the choice for large open areas and very tall ceilings, 15 to 30 feet and beyond. The 85W-100W-130W-155W linear high bay, long and rectangular, follows the orientation of the racking aisles and covers the narrow passages between shelves better. When in doubt: UFO for open volumes, linear for aisle layouts. To compare the ranges in detail, see our LED high bay lighting page.

Replacing a 400W metal halide with a 200W LED high bay

The classic industrial warehouse retrofit math: an old 400W halogen or metal halide fixture is replaced by an LED high bay of about 200W that gives equivalent, often better, light. The consumption of the fleet drops by half with no loss of brightness, and lamp replacements disappear. The 180W-200W-240W UFO high bay is the model most often chosen for this one-for-one swap; we confirm the wattage against your floor plan.

Docks, yard and perimeter: floodlights, wall packs and canopy lights

Outside, the warehouse lights continue with outdoor LED floodlights, from 30W to 1000W depending on the model, cover the truck yard, the parking lot and the trailer area, wall or pole mounted. LED wall packs install on the walls: entrances, exits, perimeter and garage doors, in standard or full cut-off versions when you want the light aimed at the ground. Under awnings and dock bays, flat recessed LED canopy lights light the trucks loading and unloading.

Emergency lighting and T8 tubes: safety and existing zones

The building code requires LED emergency lights in every commercial warehouse: "running man" exit signs, self-contained battery units and remote heads for evacuation corridors and stairs. If some zones still run on fluorescent fixtures, our 2, 4 and 8-foot T8 LED tubes install directly in them. When the fixtures themselves are worn out, for a complete low-ceiling renovation, 4 and 8-foot integrated LED fixtures replace the housing and the tubes in one step. In the adjoining offices, 3CCT LED panel lights take over.

Technical tips for warehouse LED lights

Start from the mounting height, not the fixture count. Height sets the wattage and the optic; the count then follows from the aisle spacing.

Choose 5000 K for work zones. This cool light maximizes label visibility and forklift operator alertness; the 3CCT office panels can stay warmer.

Add a sensor in low-traffic aisles. A sensor-equipped high bay ramps to full power as soon as a forklift enters the zone and dims back down afterwards.

Take advantage of 120-347V. Our high bays and wall packs accept the building voltage without a transformer; your electrician connects them directly.

Handle the exterior in the same plan. Docks, service doors and parking are planned together with the interior to avoid dark gaps between two circuits.

Two projects to see in our accomplishments: a warehouse fitted with 240W high bays and an industrial warehouse with 300W high bays. For an analysis of your current setup and a zone-by-zone fixture selection, contact LEDCO with the floor plan and ceiling height of your building.

Warehouse LED Lights FAQ

Which LED should I choose for a warehouse?

For a ceiling of 12 feet or more, an LED high bay: UFO in open areas, linear above racking aisles. Under 12 feet, T8 tubes or integrated LED fixtures are enough. Wattage then follows the height: 90 to 155W up to 20 feet, 180 to 270W up to 30 feet, 240 to 400W beyond.

What are the best warehouse LED lights for a mixed-use building?

Combine the warehouse light fixtures: high bays in the tall aisles, vapour-tight fixtures or wraparounds under the mezzanines, panels in the offices and wall packs at the doors. One plan, handed to our team, keeps wattages and light colour consistent from one zone to the next.

Can I keep the existing fluorescent fixtures?

Yes, if they are in good condition: 2, 4 and 8-foot T8 LED tubes install in the existing housings, with an adapter if needed. When the housings are worn, a 4 or 8-foot integrated LED fixture takes less effort to install than a repair.

What light colour for a storage warehouse?

For LED warehouse lights, 5000 K is the standard: a cool light that makes labels and colour codes easy to read. CCT wall packs and 3CCT panels let you set the tint on site for zones where a more neutral white is preferred.

Is emergency lighting mandatory in a warehouse?

Yes: exit signs, evacuation corridors and stairs must be covered by emergency lighting that meets the building code, and the units must keep working when the power fails. Our combo exit signs, self-contained units and LED remote heads cover these needs, and the team can help you place them on the plan.
