OUTDOOR LED SPOTLIGHTS
Outdoor LED spotlights are not just about lighting: they are about showing. A façade bathed in colour, a sign underlined with a stroke of light, a clearly marked front door, a welcoming canopy: each effect calls for a different fixture. LEDCO gathers its outdoor spotlights and accent fixtures here: RGBW wall washers for colour, flex neon for lines, adjustable and doorway wall packs for walls and doors, canopy lights for overhangs and solar wall packs for places with no wiring.
Six accent effects, six fixtures
The right spotlight is chosen by the effect you want, not by the wattage; here is the match we use:
- Façade in colour: RGBW wall washer, from understated white to a seasonal hue.
- Continuous line of light: flex neon wall washer at the base of the wall or under the cornice.
- Sign or garage door to aim at: adjustable wall pack, the spotlight fixed to the wall.
- Door threshold: compact doorway wall pack, without glare.
- Canopy or carport: LED canopy light on the ceiling, light downward.
- Wall far from the electrical panel: solar wall pack, no trenching.
RGBW wall washers #WW1, #WW2 and #WW5: bathing a façade in colour
LED wall washers bathe a wall, a column or a façade in even light, with no hot spots. In RGBW, they combine colours and a white: you go from understated white for everyday use to a brand or seasonal colour. The RGBW wall washer #WW1 is the most powerful in the series at 60 W, followed by the #WW5 at 40 W and the #WW2 at 36 W, to match the wattage to the height of the wall.
RGB wall washer #WW6 and 3-channel DMX decoder: scenes
The #WW6, in RGB at 40 W, is meant for projects where only colour matters, without white. To create scenes (slow change, alternating patterns, an effect for an event), the 3-channel DMX decoder and the 3-channel DMX controller, which drives up to 50 RGB wall washers, control compatible fixtures from a DMX system. It is the tool of commercial façades and performance venues whose lighting changes over the evening; our team checks the compatibility of the parts before ordering.
18 x 16 mm flex neon wall washer: underlining a line
For a continuous line of light at the base of a wall, under a cornice or along a sign, the 18 x 16 mm flex neon wall washer bends in two directions to follow curves and corners. It draws the architecture with a stroke of light rather than flooding it: modern façades, flat roof edges, channel letter signs. When the architecture is the subject, our architectural LED lighting page goes further.
Adjustable wall packs: the spotlight fixed to the wall
When you need to aim at a sign, a garage door or a corner of the parking lot, an adjustable wall pack acts as a wall-mounted spotlight. Adjustable LED wall packs come in 15 W-20 W-24 W-30 W for small areas and in 40 W-50 W-60 W-75 W for larger ones, in 120-347 V. Near neighbours, full cut-off models direct everything downward, and the 28 W-40 W-60 W CCT wall pack lets you choose the wattage and the colour of light.
9 W to 30 W doorway wall packs and LED canopy lights: doors and canopies
Above a front door, a service door or a back exit, a compact fixture is enough. The 9 W-12 W-15 W doorway LED wall pack lights the threshold and the lock without glare; the 20 W-25 W-30 W version covers a wider landing or entrance. Under an overhang, a canopy, a carport or a covered porch, the LED canopy light mounts to the ceiling and lights downward; it is selectable at 25 W, 40 W or 60 W and in 3000 K, 4000 K or 5000 K. Warm white for the entrance of a home or a restaurant, cooler white for a drop-off area.
15 W solar and 20 W mini solar wall packs: no wiring
For a shed, a fence or a wall far from the electrical panel, the 15 W solar LED wall pack and the 20 W mini solar wall pack install with no trenching or wiring. The solar panel charges the fixture during the day, and the light takes over in the evening. They are the simplest outdoor LED spotlights to install.
Technical tips for successful outdoor LED spotlights
Choose the effect before the fixture. Flooding, drawing a line or aiming at a point are three different gestures, and each has its device.
Grazing for a façade, frontal for a sign. A wall washer set close to the wall reveals the texture; an adjustable wall pack lights the sign head-on.
White for every day, colour for occasions. RGBW wall washers and their white channel save you from installing two systems.
Full cut-off near the neighbours. A wall pack that sends nothing skyward avoids complaints and lights the ground better.
Solar where the wire cannot go. At the back of the lot, a solar wall pack replaces a trench and an electrician.
The sphere project, completed with an RGBW outdoor LED floodlight and featured in our accomplishments, shows what colour can do outdoors. Small low-voltage spotlights for trees are in the LED landscaping category; the lighting of parking lots and large areas is in our outdoor LED floodlights, explained on the outdoor LED floodlights page. Outdoor LED spotlights FAQ
What is the difference between a spotlight and an outdoor floodlight?
The spotlight accents: it highlights a façade, a sign or a door, with a beam chosen for the effect. The floodlight floods: it lights a yard, a parking lot or a whole tree.
How do I bathe a façade in colour?
With RGBW wall washers set at the base of the wall, in grazing light: the 60 W #WW1 for a tall wall, the 40 W #WW5 or the 36 W #WW2 for a lower wall. Their white channel serves every day, and colour is kept for occasions.
Can I install outdoor LED spotlights without wiring?
Yes, with a 15 W solar wall pack or the 20 W mini: the panel charges the fixture by day and the light comes on in the evening. It is the solution for a shed, a fence or a wall far from the panel.
Which fixture above a front door?
A compact doorway wall pack, from 9 W to 15 W, lights the threshold and the lock without glare; the 20 W to 30 W version covers a wider landing. Under a canopy, the LED canopy light on the ceiling does the same job by lighting downward.
How do I program colour changes?
Through a DMX system: the 3-channel DMX decoder and the 3-channel DMX controller, which drives up to 50 RGB wall washers, control compatible fixtures for slow changes or event effects. Our team validates compatibility before ordering.
