MEDIA WALL LED LIGHTING MONT LAURIER

The media wall has become the central element of contemporary living rooms — a custom built-in unit integrating the television, storage shelving, display cases and sometimes a bioethanol or electric fireplace. Well lit, this wall becomes the room's architectural focal point, magnifying materials (wood, concrete, metal, lacquer), showcasing displayed objects and creating a home cinema ambiance that transforms a television evening into a complete visual experience. LEDCO offers complete LED solutions for media wall lighting — bias lighting behind the TV, under-shelf strips, niche profiles and cove lighting for the entire wall.

Bias lighting: the strip behind the television

Bias lighting is the LED strip installed directly behind the television, projected toward the wall. This isn't just decoration — it's a technique validated by visual ergonomics studies that reduces eye fatigue during viewing in dark rooms. When the television is the only light source in a dark living room, the eyes must constantly adapt to brightness variations between the screen (very bright) and the immediate environment (very dark), causing rapid fatigue. Bias lighting maintains a background brightness around the screen that reduces this contrast ratio, allowing hours of television viewing without discomfort. A 24V IP20 RGBW LED strip in high density (120 LEDs/m) fixed at the perimeter of the TV back (5–10cm from the edge) and directed toward the wall is the standard configuration. In warm white 3000K at low intensity (20–30% maximum power), it creates a discreet halo that improves visual comfort. In colorful RGBW mode, controlled via Alexa, Google Home or a remote, it can synchronize colors with on-screen content for an immersive cinema experience.

Under-shelf lighting on the TV unit

In a living room unit with open shelves for books, hi-fi, artwork and collectibles, a CRI 90+ LED strip in a slim aluminum profile under each shelf showcases objects with color-faithful light and no visible hot spots. Light descends from the shelves and creates a brightness gradient that animates the unit and gives it depth. In warm white 3000K, this lighting creates a warm, intimate atmosphere that contrasts with the living room's general lighting. At dimmed levels (10–20% power), it can serve as decorative nightlight in the evening. The 8–12mm wide slim aluminum profile is the preferred solution for living room shelving — discreet from the front, it doesn't visually impose itself on the unit's composition. LEDCO's Builder tool cuts profiles and strips to each shelf's exact dimensions.

Niche and cabinet lighting in the media wall

Framed niches in the media wall — for statuettes, whisky bottles, vinyl records or decorative objects — become illuminated display cases with an LED strip in a U-shaped profile recessed at the top or sides of the niche. A high-density CRI 90+ strip at 3000K, at 30–40% power, creates gallery-style lighting that showcases each object with a precise light halo. For deep niches (15cm or more), strips at both the top and bottom of the niche create cross-lighting that eliminates shadows. To complete the media wall staging, a LED cove at the top of the built-in unit projects light toward the ceiling in indirect lighting — creating a halo that frames the media wall in the room and softens the transition between the unit and ceiling. A home automation controller programs scenes: "Film" (bias lighting 30% + cove 20% + under-shelves 15%), "Reception" (all sources 60–80%), "Standby" (cove 5% only).
