LED BATHROOM LIGHTING

Bathroom light fixtures take over where the mirror leaves off. Lighting works hard in this room: it lights the face, makes an evening bath pleasant and guides you at night without glare, all amid steam and splashes. This page covers the other fixtures: the light bar above the mirror, wall sconces, puck lights in shelves and niches, and strip under the vanity. LEDCO offers them in formats that work together, from the 2' 5CCT fixture to 3000K up/down sconces.

Bathroom light fixtures: the whole room, not just the mirror

An LED mirror often takes care of lighting the face, but it does not do everything. Here are the other locations to plan for:

  • Above a mirror with no built-in light: a light bar mounted on the wall above the vanity.
  • On either side of the mirror: linear sconces that light the face from the front.
  • On a feature wall: up/down sconces that bring out the tile.
  • In shelves and niches: small puck lights where nothing else fits.
  • Under the vanity: a low-voltage strip, fine-tuned by a dimmable power supply.

The 2' 5CCT light bar, round or square, above an unlit mirror

A fixture installed above the mirror remains the simplest solution when the existing mirror has no built-in lighting. The 2' 5CCT round bathroom light fixture and its square equivalent mount on the wall above the vanity. Their five selectable colour temperatures adjust the light to the room: warmer for relaxing, whiter for shaving or applying makeup with precision. For a double vanity, two fixtures, one above each sink, keep one person from standing in the other's shadow.

Linear sconces: front light for the face

To light the face without shadows under the eyes and chin, light needs to come from the front rather than from the ceiling. The 24 in 16W 3CCT oval linear LED wall sconce, mounted above the mirror or on either side depending on the model, has a soft shape that suits contemporary vanities. The 20 or 24 in slot version offers a more graphic line, and the 24 or 48 in backlit sconce casts a halo on the tile. Check each model's product sheet to confirm it suits damp rooms.

4 W and 8 W up/down sconces: a second mood for the bath

For an evening bath, the main lighting is often too bright. The 4W 3000K round up/down LED wall sconce and the 8W 3000K up/down sconce project two beams on the wall: tile or stone gains texture, in a warm light that helps you unwind. Installed on either side of a window or on a wall away from the shower, at a location approved by your electrician, they add a second mood. See all our LED wall light fixtures.

#600R, #200 and #400 puck lights in shelves, #500 for the relaxation corner

LED puck lights are small round or square LED bathroom lighting fixtures that fit under a glass shelf, in an open cabinet, in the ceiling of a niche or under the vanity. The #600R LED puck light and its square #600S version, the #200 or the #400 light the products on a shelf or create a discreet night light. The #500 LED puck light, intended for saunas and spas, is an asset when the bathroom includes a relaxation corner.

A dimmable power supply, from 24 W to 96 W, for the small fixtures

Puck lights and strips run on low voltage: they need a power supply, and a dimmable model lets you soften the light. Our dimmable LED power supplies range from the 24W dimmable LED power supply, enough for a few puck lights in a niche, to the 96W model for a larger setup, for example puck lights plus an indoor LED strip under the vanity. Paired with a compatible dimmer, it keeps a very soft light at night.

Technical tips for bathroom fixtures

From the front rather than from above. Light arriving at face height erases the shadows that a ceiling fixture alone creates under the eyes.

One fixture per sink. On a double vanity, two units spread the light better than a single centred one.

Keep the power supply dry and accessible. Install it away from splashes and choose a wattage higher than the total consumption of the connected fixtures.

Confirm the location before installing. Have your electrician approve each fixture's position relative to the shower and the bath.

A warm white for ambiance. 3000K up/down sconces and a dimmed night light keep the room soft in the evening.

For lighting the face, also consider our backlit LED mirrors, which combine mirror and lighting. Two bathrooms in our accomplishments illustrate these ideas: a Galaxy LED mirror in one, under-vanity lighting in the other. To put your set together, contact us.

Bathroom Light Fixtures FAQ

What is the best bathroom light for a double vanity?

Two fixtures, one above each sink, rather than a single one in the centre: each person has their own light and nobody stands in the other's shadow. The 2' 5CCT fixture, round or square, suits this layout well, as does the 48 in backlit sconce that spans the full width.

Can a bathroom fixture go near the shower?

It depends on the product and the location. Check each model's product sheet to see whether it suits damp rooms, and have your electrician approve its position relative to the shower and the bath. When in doubt, keep sconces on a wall away from the shower.

Why choose a 5CCT fixture above the mirror?

Because it offers five selectable colour temperatures: you set warmer light for relaxing or whiter light for shaving and makeup. It is handy when you do not yet know which white will match the tile and the other fixtures.

How should bathroom light fixtures be combined with a lit mirror?

Let the mirror light the face, then add what it does not do: up/down sconces for ambiance, puck lights in shelves and niches, a strip under the vanity for the night. A dimmable power supply lets you set these small sources by time of day.
