LED CORRIDOR LIGHTS

In an office building, a school, a clinic, a hotel or a museum, LED corridor lighting serves the space everyone uses and nobody notices, until a fixture flickers or a section stays dark. Lighting for a commercial or institutional corridor has to guide circulation, keep people safe at any hour and remain simple to maintain for the building manager. LEDCO supports electrical contractors, architects and property managers, from the drywall ceiling to the service corridor.

Which LED corridor lighting for which type of corridor

The right fixture depends first on the ceiling and on how the corridor is used:

  • Drywall ceiling, public corridor: a row of downlights or linear strokes, evenly spaced from one end of the floor to the other.
  • Suspended ceiling: ceiling LED panels fit directly into the existing grid.
  • Entrance hall or showcase corridor: a trimless downlight or a continuous line in a profile, for a clean ceiling.
  • Service corridor or technical basement: a surface-mounted wraparound fixture.
  • Damp or frequently washed corridor: a vapour-tight fixture with a closed housing.

Commercial and linear downlights: the rhythm of a drywall ceiling

In most corridors, a row of evenly spaced downlights remains the most effective solution: light falls evenly on the floor, doors and signage stay visible, and the ceiling keeps a clean look. The round commercial LED downlight comes in 10W to 40W: the same family of fixtures serves narrow corridors as well as wider halls. For a clean ceiling, the DLT 4" round trimless 12W recessed light blends into the drywall with no visible trim. The full range is in our LED ceiling downlights.

A long corridor also benefits from reading as a line. The 10W-18W recessed linear LED fixture draws strokes of light aligned with the direction of travel: the eye follows the corridor, which helps visitors find their way in a hospital, a public building or a campus.

Recessed or suspended profiles: a continuous line from end to end

When the project calls for a truly continuous line of light, LED strip in an aluminum profile becomes the solution of choice. Recessed LED aluminum profiles integrate into drywall for a flush line, while suspended profiles suit open or very high ceilings, common in schools and renovated buildings. With the Custom Builder, you configure profile and strip to the exact lengths on your plan, with no improvised joints on site.

Wraparounds and vapour-tight fixtures: service corridors

Service corridors, passages to mechanical rooms and loading dock access routes call for sturdy lighting that installs quickly. The 4-foot LED wraparound surface-mounts to the ceiling or under a concrete slab, and the 8' multi-watt 5CCT 120V-347V wraparound covers long passages with fewer installation points. Its wattage (65W, 75W or 90W) and its five colour temperatures are selected to suit the room, which simplifies spare parts.

For passages to a pool or locker rooms, commercial kitchen corridors or tunnels between two pavilions, the 4' 3CCT LED vapour-tight fixture has a closed housing, and the 4' 60W NEMA 4X vapour-tight fixture suits more demanding environments. With integrated LEDs, there is no tube to replace.

Emergency lighting: the corridor is also an exit route

In a commercial or institutional building, the corridor often serves as the evacuation route. Regular lighting should therefore be planned at the same time as emergency lighting and exit signage. Our LED emergency lights include emergency light units, remote heads and exit signs; confirm the requirements for your building with your engineer or electrician.

Technical tips for commercial LED corridor lighting

One fixture family per floor. The same fixture, in several wattages, keeps the ceiling consistent and simplifies maintenance.

Align the light with circulation. Strokes or a line along the corridor axis guide visitors better than scattered points.

Choose the white for the building. 3CCT and 5CCT models let you set the colour temperature on site, according to use.

Plan emergency lighting from the start. Emergency units and exit signs are placed at the same time as regular lighting.

Order profiles cut to length. A continuous line cut in the shop avoids visible joints on site.

Corridor LED Lighting FAQ

Which corridor lights should I choose for a commercial building?

Under a drywall ceiling, round commercial downlights or linear recessed fixtures; under a suspended ceiling, LED panels in the grid. For a continuous line, a recessed or suspended profile. Service corridors take wraparounds, and damp corridors take vapour-tight fixtures.

How do I light a damp corridor or a tunnel between two pavilions?

With a vapour-tight fixture with a closed housing, such as our 4' 3CCT LED vapour-tight fixture. For more demanding environments, the 4' 60W NEMA 4X model is suitable. Since they use integrated LEDs, there is no tube to change.

What colour temperature suits a corridor?

It depends on the building's use and on the rooms along the corridor. The 5CCT wraparounds and 3CCT vapour-tight fixtures let you choose the white on site. Our team can help you match it to the offices, classrooms or rooms.

How many fixtures does a long corridor need?

It depends on the width, the ceiling height and the fixture chosen. Send us your plans or your corridor dimensions and our team will help you set the spacing. An 8' wraparound covers a long passage with fewer installation points than a 4' unit.

Do you have photos of lit corridors?

Yes, our accomplishments gallery shows the McCord Stewart Museum and Université Laval, where profile #94 draws a continuous line. It is a good starting point to picture LED corridor lighting in a profile before you choose.
