LED FLOOR LIGHTS
An LED floor light guides your steps and shapes a space without ever causing glare: recessed lights in a deck, an LED strip at floor level under an island, spotlights that light a tree from below. Before choosing, three questions decide everything: the protection rating, with IP65 at minimum under cover and IP67 in the rain, the voltage, 12 V or 24 V, and the load the fixture has to bear. In-floor lights for decks and walkways: PAVO and #2000 pucks
To mark a walkway, a pool surround or a deck, the fixture is recessed flush with the surface, in wood, composite or a concrete slab. The PAVO LED landscape light, in 24 V, is designed for landscaping. The #2000 puck family applies the same idea with several light outputs: the round #2000 puck shines upward, the 1-side and 2-side versions direct the light sideways, and the louver and scoop versions push it down to avoid glare. Walk-over or not: what to check before you buy
Not every floor fixture holds up under a heel. Some are made to be walked on, others are not: the spec sheet says so, and it is the first line to read. Next, check that the cutout diameter suits the thickness of the floor, and that the voltage, 12 V or 24 V, matches the length of the circuit. As for the light, 2700 K warm white creates ambiance, while 4000 K neutral white marks a path better for safety.
LED strips at floor level: grazing light
An LED strip installed at floor level, set in an aluminum profile or tucked under furniture, produces a discreet and very effective grazing effect. For floor use, an IP67 silicone-sleeved strip is the standard: the sleeve protects it from moisture, cleaning products and light knocks. Indoors: a profile in the floor and a glow under furniture
Indoors, floor lighting is mostly used for architectural effect or wayfinding. A profile recessed into a hardwood floor draws a line of light that is very popular in open-plan kitchens and corridors. A glow under cabinets, a buffet or an island creates a sense of lightness and helps you find your way at night. At the foot of an exposed stone or concrete wall, grazing light brings out the texture. And in an indoor staircase, a line at the base of each riser marks the steps.
Lighting from below: PICO spotlights and 24 V floodlights
To highlight a tree, a column, a façade or a fence wall, a spotlight is placed on the ground, aimed upward. The PICO LED outdoor spotlight (12-24V) is compact and discreet; for a taller subject, the 24V 20W LED floodlight or its 30 W version gives more reach. These fixtures stay at low voltage, which simplifies wiring in the garden.
Choosing the IP rating
The IP rating of an LED floor light depends directly on where it will be installed:
- IP44: splash-proof, not sufficient for floor use.
- IP65: water-jet resistant, the minimum for a covered floor.
- IP67: temporary submersion, required in direct rain and around a pool.
- IP68: continuous submersion, for a fixture in shallow water.
Low voltage in the garden: power supply, wire and sealed connections
An outdoor floor circuit is built at low voltage, with a power supply designed for outdoor use such as the LUVIA 100W outdoor power supply. Landscaping wire links the fixtures, and every splice is made in an IP68 outdoor junction box or with silicone-filled marettes. A CSA-certified 120V photocell switches everything on at dusk. Technical tips for choosing an LED floor light
Read the load rating before the wattage. A recessed light that is not rated for foot traffic never goes in a walkway, even if it lights perfectly.
Use 24 V for long runs. At 12 V, count on about 5 m of strip per driver; 24 V goes to about 10 m before the light fades at the far end.
Light the ground, not the eyes. A floor fixture seen head-on dazzles; side outputs and louvers keep the light on the path.
Seal every outdoor splice. An open connection in damp soil is a frequent cause of failure in a garden circuit.
One colour temperature per path. Mixing 2700 K and 4000 K along the same walkway looks uneven, and it shows from afar.

Can you walk on an LED floor light?
Only if the model is rated for foot traffic, which its spec sheet states clearly. In a walkway, a path or a deck, install only recessed lights designed for that load; elsewhere, in a flower bed or at the foot of a wall, the requirement no longer applies.
What IP rating for in-floor lighting on a deck?
IP65 at minimum if the deck is covered, IP67 if it is exposed to direct rain or close to a pool. For a fixture that stays underwater, you need IP68.
Can I use floor can lights indoors?
Yes: a small spotlight set on the floor and aimed upward does the job of a floor can uplight, on a plant or a wall. A low-voltage model like the PICO, with its power supply, stays compact and discreet. For a whole wall, an LED strip in a profile at the foot of the wall gives a more even grazing light.
12 V or 24 V for a floor-level strip?
12 V suits short circuits, up to about 5 m of strip per driver. 24 V is recommended for longer runs, up to about 10 m, and for higher-output fixtures: the light stays even from one end to the other.
How do I switch floor lighting on automatically?
Outdoors, a photocell turns the circuit on at dusk and off at dawn. On stairs, the 3W LED stair light with motion detector only comes on when someone walks by. For a complete project, contact the LEDCO team.
