LED POOL LIGHTS

Good pool lights turn the pool into the heart of the yard when evening comes: you can see the steps and the coping, you enjoy the deck longer, and the water reflects the light like a mirror. This page covers the area around the water: coping, steps, deck, plantings and the buildings around the pool. LEDCO offers outdoor LED strips, profiles, floodlights, recessed lights and wall packs designed to cope with frost, rain, sun and humidity.

Pool lights: one zone, one fixture

Well-planned pool lights are not one big floodlight, but several fixtures that each have their own role. Here is how to spread them out, from the coping to the back of the yard:

  • Coping and steps: an LED strip in a profile, for a grazing line that outlines the water.
  • Water surface: an RGBW floodlight placed outside the pool, playing with the reflections.
  • Trees and hedges: small 24 V floodlights aimed up from the ground.
  • Walkways and deck: flush recessed lights that guide without glare.
  • The whole yard: a more powerful floodlight, on its own circuit, for safety.

Under the coping and along the steps: LED strip in a profile

An LED strip hidden under the coping, along the pool steps or under the deck railing creates a grazing line of light that outlines the water and makes moving around safer. Near the water, choose a waterproof outdoor LED strip, set in an aluminum profile that protects it and gives a clean line. In warm white, 2700 K or 3000 K, the light stays welcoming; in RGB, it allows colour effects for summer evenings. It is the most discreet pool lighting: you see the line, never the source.

15 W and 50 W RGBW floodlights: bring the water's surface to life

Standard LED floodlights are placed outside the pool, on the deck or in a flower bed, aimed at the water or at a nearby feature: waterfall, rock garden, low wall. The reflection on the water does the rest. The 15 W RGBW LED floodlight suits small ponds and garden water features; the 50 W RGBW LED floodlight covers a larger area. RGBW combines colours and a white: you go from a festive mood to understated lighting.

Hedges, trees and green screens: 24 V 20 W and 30 W floodlights

The trees, hedges and plantings that frame the pool deserve their own light. The 24 V 20 W LED floodlights and 30 W models, low voltage, aim up from the ground to highlight a trunk, a cedar hedge or a green screen that protects the yard's privacy. A warm white enhances the foliage without cooling the mood. The other fixtures in our LED landscaping category complete these accents.

PAVO LED recessed light: trace the path between house and pool

On the deck and along the walkways leading to the pool, light should guide without glare. The PAVO LED recessed light sits flush with the ground to mark a walkway, a step or the edge of a deck. Spaced at regular intervals, a few recessed lights are enough to trace the path, with no raised fixture to draw the eye.

30 W-50 W-60 W floodlight: safety lighting for the whole yard

For a large yard, an in-ground pool surrounded by a wide patio or a cottage lot, general lighting complements the accents. The 30 W-50 W-60 W LED floodlight, mounted on the house wall or on a pole, lights the space for evening swims, tidying up and safety. For this role, a 4000 K neutral white helps you see clearly, while warm white is kept for the accents around the water.

Pool house far from the panel: the 20 W mini solar wall pack

The pool house, chemical storage shed or pool equipment room is often far from the electrical panel. The 20 W mini solar LED wall pack mounts on the wall with no wiring and lights the door and its surroundings. Where power is already available, the other LED wall packs take over.

Technical tips for lighting around a pool

Fixtures stay out of the water. Floodlights, strips and recessed lights go on the deck, under the coping or in the flower beds; the reflection is what makes the water shine.

Two circuits: mood and safety. Keep the general floodlight on a circuit separate from the ambient lights, so you can switch one on without the other.

Aim at the ground, not the neighbours. A floodlight pointed downward lights the yard without shining into the windows next door.

A yard plan before ordering. The position of the pool, the deck and the existing outlets lets us propose complete lighting with nothing superfluous.

For a concrete example, our accomplishments include a pool lit with aluminum profile #85. To plan the lighting of your pool, pond or water feature, contact the LEDCO team with a plan or a few photos of the yard: we will recommend the products suited to your layout and dimensions.

LED Pool Lighting FAQ

What is the best LED pool light?

There isn't just one: each zone has its own. The strip in a profile outlines the coping, the RGBW floodlight brings the water to life, the 24 V floodlights light the plantings and the 30 W-50 W-60 W floodlight handles safety. It is the combination that makes good pool lights.

Do you sell submersible pool lights?

The products on this page are installed out of the water: under the coping, on the deck, in flower beds or on a wall. If you are looking for a fixture installed in the pool itself, write to us with your pool model and we will tell you what we can offer.

How do I light a pond or a garden water feature?

Place a 15 W RGBW floodlight out of the water, aimed at a waterfall, a rock garden or a low wall, so the water sends the light back. Add a 24 V floodlight on the plantings around the pond to give the scene depth.

Which light colour should I choose around a pool?

A warm white of 2700 K or 3000 K near the water and on the foliage, for a welcoming mood. A 4000 K neutral white for the yard's safety lighting. And RGB or RGBW for the evenings when you want colour.

How do I light an in-ground pool and its patio?

Start with a strip in a profile under the coping, then trace the path to the house with a few PAVO recessed lights flush with the patio. A floodlight mounted on the wall or on a pole, on its own circuit, then lights the whole area for evening swims.
