VAPOR TIGHT LED FIXTURE
The vapor tight LED fixture is engineered for industrial and commercial environments where dust, moisture, water spray and high-pressure washdowns are daily realities. Used in commercial kitchens, parking garages, cold storage rooms, car washes, food processing plants and cellars, it delivers durability that standard LED fixtures simply cannot match. LEDCO offers a selection of 4-foot and 8-foot vapor tight LED fixtures, IP65/IP66 rated, shipped across Canada.
4 ft and 8 ft Vapor Tight — Warehouses and Covered Parking
4-foot and 8-foot LED vapor tight fixtures are the benchmark for mid-height warehouses (4 to 7 m), covered parking and loading docks. The molded polycarbonate housing resists impacts, thermal deformation and industrial cleaning chemicals. In the 4-foot version (40-60W), a lumen output of 5,000 to 7,000 lm with an efficacy of 130-160 lm/W is sufficient for mounting heights of 3 to 5 m. The 8-foot version (80-100W) with 10,000 to 13,000 lm covers wider warehouse aisles from heights of 5 to 7 m. Chain or surface mounting with push-in quick connectors significantly simplifies installation when replacing existing fluorescent vapor tights.
IP65 and IP66 — Car Wash, Cooler and Wet Zones
The difference between IP65 and IP66 is critical depending on the application: IP65 withstands water jets (low-pressure hose cleaning), while IP66 resists powerful directional high-pressure water jets (industrial washdowns). For a car wash, commercial kitchen, dairy or food packaging area with daily steam cleaning, IP66 is the minimum required. The silicone gasket of a vapor tight fixture must withstand thermal cycling (-20°C to +40°C) without degrading over 50,000 hours of operation. The maximum ambient operating temperature (Ta) is a parameter to verify for industrial kitchens where ambient heat can reach 45 to 55°C.
IK10 — Impact Resistance in Traffic Zones
For areas with risk of physical impact — loading docks, forklift warehouses, industrial corridors — the IK10 rating means the diffuser withstands a 20-joule impact. IK10-rated LED fixtures feature a 3 to 5 mm UV-stabilized polycarbonate diffuser to resist yellowing. Without an IK rating, a fixture struck by a pallet jack or container can expose bare LEDs and create an electrical hazard. In forklift warehouses, mounting height (above 3.5 m) should normally protect the fixtures, but IK10 remains recommended as insurance.
NSF Food Zones — Commercial Kitchen and Processing
In commercial kitchens, slaughterhouses, industrial bakeries and food processing plants, the LED fixture must be NSF certified or compliant with local sanitary standards. NSF certification imposes additional requirements: smooth surfaces with no crevices where bacteria can harbor, materials resistant to acidic and alkaline cleaning agents (pH 2-12), and a gasket approved for areas in contact with food zones. Integrated LED fixtures with one-piece housing and no exposed screws are the easiest to clean and maintain in these environments. Color temperature of 5000K is recommended for food inspection areas where visual defect detection is critical.
Technical Tips — Vapor Tight LED Fixture
- IP65: low-pressure water jet resistance (standard cleaning)
- IP66: high-pressure water jet resistance (food industry, car wash)
- IK10: 20-joule impact resistance (heavy equipment zones)
- Recommended color temperature: 4000K warehouse, 5000K food inspection
- Check max Ta before kitchen installation (some models limited to 35°C ambient)
- UV-stabilized polycarbonate housing essential for partially sun-exposed zones
- Push-in quick connectors for easy replacement of existing fluorescent vapor tights
- Chain mounting recommended for heights above 5 m — simplifies alignment and maintenance
