RGB LED DECORATIVE LIGHTING
An RGB LED strip opens the whole colour palette to turn a living room, a bar, a bedroom or a storefront into a living space that changes mood with the moment. LEDCO supplies the complete components, from strip to controller: 14.4 W/m RGB strips, RGBW strips with a dedicated white channel, pixel strips for effects, 4-zone remotes and wall controllers, dimmable power supplies and the aluminum profiles that give the whole thing a true fixture finish.
14.4 W/m RGB LED strip: uniform colour for ambiance
The 14.4 W/m RGB strip is the foundation of decorative colour lighting: each LED mixes red, green and blue, and every LED on the strip changes colour at the same time according to the controller's signal. This is called analog RGB, perfect for the indirect lighting of a cove, the underside of a cabinet or a niche, where you want one uniform tint from end to end. It belongs to our indoor LED strips in 12 V or 24 V.
RGBW 9, 19.2 and 23 W/m: colour and a true white
An RGB strip produces white by mixing the three colours, often cool and unnatural. RGBW adds a fourth chip, a dedicated white: the 19.2 W/m RGBW strip, the more powerful 23 W/m RGBW strip, and the 9 W/m RGBW strip for small zones. Day to day, you light in white; for a party, you switch to colour. It is what we recommend as soon as the strip also serves as lighting, not just decoration.
19 W/m pixel RGBW strip and COB RGBW: effects and a dotless line
When every LED should change together, analog RGB is enough. For different colour zones on the same strip, chasing effects or gradients, you need an addressable strip: the 19 W/m pixel RGBW strip is driven point by point. The 19 W/m COB RGBW strip answers a different need: a continuous line of colour, with no visible dots, even without a diffuser.
Which RGB family for which project
The right strip depends on what the light has to do in the room:
- Living room, bedroom, cove: RGBW, for warm white in the evening and colour on occasion.
- Bar, restaurant, retail: 23 W/m RGBW in a profile, for a uniform, powerful brand tint.
- Media wall and home theatre: RGBW behind the screen, as bias lighting; see our media wall LED lighting page.
- Storefront, stage, event: pixel strip, for animated sequences.
- Outdoors and pool: IP67 receiver and exterior remote, or RGBW LED floodlights.
Remotes, wall controllers and Wi-Fi bridge: the brain of the installation
The controller decides everything the strip can do. The R24 4-zone RGBW remote and receiver kit is the simplest starting point: one receiver per zone, one remote for four zones. On the wall, the W24 4-zone RGB/RGBW wall controller replaces the switch, and the white or RGBW receiver and Wi-Fi bridge connects the zones to the home network. For a large project, the 8-zone RGBW remote and the 4-zone 20A IP67 outdoor receiver cover indoors and out. The whole range is in our LED dimmers and controllers.
Dimmable power supply, amplifier and wire: sizing the power
The power supply is calculated: watts per metre times the length, plus a 20% margin, because a power supply running at its maximum heats up and ages fast. Our dimmable LED power supplies run from 24 W to 300 W, with 5in1 models at 96 W, 192 W and 288 W. Beyond the capacity of one receiver, the 4-channel 20A amplifier relays the signal to the next section of strip. An RGB strip needs a four-conductor wire, an RGBW a five-conductor one: a common plus one per colour.
Aluminum profiles and diffusers: professional finish
A colour strip stuck on bare stays a DIY job; in an aluminum profile with an opal or clear diffuser, it becomes an architectural fixture. The profile dissipates the strip's heat, protects it from knocks, and the opal diffuser blends the dots into a uniform line where the colours mix cleanly. For a cove or a niche, the recessed U-profile is the most discreet; for a visible line of RGB lighting on a wall or under a staircase, surface or suspended profiles give the maximum effect. Our custom designer ships the strip already mounted in the profile, cut to your lengths.
Technical tips for RGB LED strip lighting
Go RGBW if the strip is there to light. The mixed white of an RGB suits a decor, not reading or a meal.
Four channels, five wires. An RGBW is wired with a five-conductor wire; an RGB with four. Plan it before the walls are closed.
Allow a 20% margin on the power supply. Watts per metre, times the length, times 1.2.
One receiver per zone, one remote for all. The 4 and 8-zone systems keep each room independent without multiplying remotes.
The aluminum profile is not optional on powerful strips. A 23 W/m strip in prolonged use needs the aluminum to shed its heat.

RGB LED Strip FAQ
RGB or RGBW: which should I choose?
RGB mixes three colours and gets an approximate white; RGBW adds a dedicated white chip. If the strip is only a colour decor, the 14.4 W/m RGB is enough; if it also has to light in white every day, take an RGBW.
What is a pixel strip?
A strip where each light point is controlled separately, which allows different colour zones, chasing effects and gradients on one strip. The 19 W/m pixel RGBW strip is our model for these uses; a classic RGB strip changes colour as a single block.
Can I control RGB lighting from my phone?
Yes, with the receiver and Wi-Fi bridge, which connects your zones to the home network. The 4 and 8-zone remotes and the wall controllers stay available alongside, for guests and for the evenings when the phone is elsewhere.
What power supply for an RGB LED strip?
Multiply the watts per metre by the length, add 20% and choose the dimmable power supply just above. For example, a 14.4 W/m strip needs a smaller power supply than a 23 W/m strip of the same length. Our team checks the math with you before you order.
Can RGB lighting be installed outdoors?
Yes: the 4-zone 20A IP67 outdoor receiver and the exterior remote and receiver kit are made for it, with a strip designed for outdoor use. To light a façade or a tree in colour, RGBW LED floodlights complete the strip.
